What are you passionate about?

Had a conversation with dh this morning.
He has lots of things that he's really into. For instance
Football. Attends matches. Member of supporters club.
Horse racing. Has a racehorse. Attends races.

There are lots of other things. I commented that our life revolves around his passions.

He said well what are you passionate about and I couldn't name anything.

Am I alone?

What are you passionate about?

Lovely post, Plink.

Yes to travel- I have a couple of places that I love to return to and that feel like coming home.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 21/07/2019 12:16

Football, politics, feminism, combating disablism, my job.

Obviously family first though, but these are the things I'm really passionate about.

Interesting reading.
Thanks for the replies.
I like a lot of the things listed.

Maybe I don't need to force passionate.

My dp is just the same op.

Whenever I say I’m fed up, he will come out with “ you’ve not got a passion for anything”
Like I’m passionate about
Motor bikes
Tennis
Speedway

He makes me feel inadequate because “I don’t have a passion”

I LIKE
Reading
Go to Pilates
Do gardening
Like shopping for house things
Colouring

...but it ebbs and flows: I can spend ages planning a citybreak to somewhere unusual, and then not really worry about going anywhere else for a few months. I still love travel. I can eat cereal for tea every evening for a week. But I still love food.

GrrrAaargh · 22/07/2019 06:51

I have plenty of interests, but I'm not sure any of them are passions. I'm not sure where the distinction lies.

Good food and drink
Nature and outdoors
Mental health (care provision to certain complex conditions specifically)
Human rights
Reading, books, small book shops and my reading group
Certain aspects of history

None of these are things I "could talk endlessly about" or organise my entire life around, though.

Cazziebo · 22/07/2019 06:59

I get that about the overuse of "passionate" but I do think everyone needs something in their lives that brings them joy. Having watched two relatives die of a horrible disease (one far too young) I vowed that I would invest more time in doing what makes me happy. So:

watching the birds on the bird feeder (can't tell you how excited I get when the goldfinch appears)
books
knitting
being outdoors -especially in woods or on the coast
achieving my Fitbit targets
family

There's other things that I'd say I am passionate about but are not always positive :
social justice
feminism
equality

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/07/2019 09:10

Very boringly, I am passionate about clearing my mortgage. Knowing the roof over my head is secure is a big deal for me so I am working hard to achieve that.

More interestingly I am passionate about some specific exercise goals I am working towards. It is a thing where you can either do it or you can’t. You can’t cheat it, you can’t fake it. I love that it is so black and white.

Injustice in the family courts for loving mothers..there appears to be little at the moment ☹️
Complimentary health
My dh
My children
My grandchildren
Holidays
Being the best version of myself that I can be
Dowsing
Crystals
Radionics

Not necessarily in that order

Luaa · 22/07/2019 09:52

Mental health provision for children
Animal welfare
Womens rights

Those are the issues I'm passionate about.

I have a sport I play weekly and watch as well, but I don't know if I'd say I'm passionate about it.

I love travelling, but again, I don't know if I'd say I'm passionate about it.

I'm pretty passionate about my work actually.

Dowser · 22/07/2019 09:56

I think once you’ve got the grunt work of child care out of the way , and don’t get me wrong I love (d) being a mum, or when you’ve retired you’ve got time to do the things you always wanted.

So many women in their 60s are walking the Machu pichu trail or similar
Taking up body building , kick boxing allthe things that maybe weren’t available to us when growing up in the 60 s or we just didn’t have time for

Don’t worry about it . It’ll just develop naturally

PlinkPlink · 22/07/2019 10:31

@flametrees I watched this video this morning and thought of you! I just wanted to link it. It's a TED talk called 'Stop Searching For Your Passion'.

She talks about jobs mainly but it's applicable to all areas. Really worth a watch if you've got a spare few minutes.

(Hopefully that link works, if not you can just search for 'Stop Searching for your Passion', TED)

flametrees · 22/07/2019 10:38

@PlinkPlink
Thank you.

@granadagirl that's it I think.
I feel like I have to come up with something as I'm just living in my dhs shadow. Following him around.
Next weekend we are traveling to a horse show. I have absolutely no interest in horses.
