pil and sil go on an AI holiday each year to lanzarote or southern spain. They'd like us to come with them next year, It's just shy of £3k for 4 of us to go to one of the bog standard ones with no watersports facilities except a pool.

How do you entertain yourself and a 9yr old and 5yr old for 2 weeks?

Experiences welcome!

I'm going on a AI holiday this year with my teenager, we are both looking forward to some time spent on a sun lounger reading and some nice food we don't have to shop for and prepare. The food reviews are really good, a different theme every night so not repetitive, in the evenings at least.

I see it as proper down time from work and school to recharge. We'll have a walk to the beach, the harbour, the shops, maybe a day trip somewhere if we fancy it. We will eat out in local restaurants if we feel like it but some days we'll just lounge around. We don't do this every year, we sometimes do more active holidays, in the UK and abroad, we have a more active holiday planned for later in the year.

We have been to AI resorts with family who think you have to have every drink and meal there because you've paid for it, we ignored them and had lunch out if we wanted to.

We did it because it is easy, no big decisions to make. Enough food and lots of activities for children.

Saying that, we also go out every third day or so, DH sees it as escaping the prison. Yes, that means paying extra but none of us is willing to spend 2 weeks stuck in a resort.

We will go again AI but only because we found it actually cheaper even with going out than half board or B&B. Some hotels offer to make you a packed lunch.

Last time DD used the kids club was when she was 9, I would think that is the upper limit for most even if they say it goes to 11 or 12.

Oh middle class snobbery - of course! Penny just dropped for me.

My family are sneery about AI so I felt like I had to justify myself. I get it now.

I can’t wait personally!
