Long haul flight with baby-what have I forgotten?!

I’m flying to Australia with my 7 month old soon and am trying to work out what I’ll need on the plane. He’s breastfed so no need for bottles etc. So far I’ve packed -

12 nappies
1 pack of wipes
Folding changing mat
3 onesies
2 vests
4 dribble bibs
4 dummies
2 fabric books
1 small teddy
Some stacking cups
Chewy toys
Small bubbles - these calm him down in a meltdown!
4 pouches of food (he’s catered for on the flight but incase they’re not liked etc)
2 spoons
2 Muslins
Calpol sachet & syringe
Our wrap sling

I’ll have my iPad which I’ll download some emergency cartoons/baby sensory TV onto.

What else do I need in babies cabin bag please?!

DS was 11 months, Brisbane to London via Japan.

The memory lingers.... but the 8 month old next to us from Japan to London more or less slept the whole way, 11 hours.

But I think your list looks comprehensive.

Spare clothes for you

SnowsInWater · 20/07/2019 10:37

I was going to say spare clothes for you too, DS once threw up all over me ten minutes into a long flight and I hadn't thought of that one. Luckily DH had a spare t-shirt!

A blanket/sleeping bag?

RainOrSun · 20/07/2019 10:39

Any snacks?
Yes, yes, yes to spare clothes for you.
His blanket?
Looks like a good list.

I've done a long haul flight with a 4month old before and the only things I can add are: toy straps that you can attach to the toy and hold the other end so you can avoid endlessly picking up toys from the floor, a sky mattress (it's a roll mat type thing that you put across your arm so baby can sleep in your arms and it's way more comfy for them and for you-remember you'll have to hold the baby if turbulence and at take off and landing), a change of clothes for you (you don't want to be covered in baby sick for 24hours!), antibacterial wipes (trays, toilets etc are notoriously dirty on planes) and teething gels/infacol. I'd also avoid toys like stacking cups as you'll be forever bending over and picking them up if the floor and they may roll away. Also just hold your head high and don't panic when baby cries-most people won't even notice as they'll be too busy watching films with their headsets on. Also take a sling if you need to do pacing and for at the airport at the other end. Good luck and have a safe flight!

Having done this trip with babies a couple of times I would suggest a dummy. Mine didn't like them but on take off and landing try to get baby to suck as it helps with the ear pain. Breastfeed if possible but it's a good backup. Water cup?
Good luck

Yes I was going to pack a whole new outfit for me in my cabin bag.

Water cup - had totally forgotten that! That’s a good point about stacking cups rolling away too, I’ll try and find an easier toy, any suggestions? I’ll order some toy straps too.

We’ve booked a bassinet so hopefully he’ll be happy in there and I’ve packed a small fleece blanket just forgot to put it on the list.

The breastfeeding on take off and landing I can’t quite work out the logistics of baby has to be on my lap facing out with the seatbelt on how do I stretch a boob round to his mouth?! Or can I sit him sideways and he still be in the seatbelt?
