Surprises for children: "close your eyes!"

It's a bit of a cliché, and happens a lot in books; indeed on the MN page about "rewarding children for behaving well" there's a picture of a child with her hands over her eyes while a reward is brought in.

Do you make your children close their eyes for surprises or presents? I don't think my parents ever did, although other children would tell of their parents making them close their eyes.

Sure, why not? We aren't weirdos Hmm

Of course yes - it's hardly the kind of thing that leaves them needing counselling in later years is it? Confused

My parents did. What's wrong with it?!!

Defensive first reply.

No I don't, but only because it didn't happen to me. I don't think of it.

Yes I did.

I’ve never done it but my dd does it me all the time to surprise me with some creation or another.
She must like the idea so I should really do it for her.

Well, that escalated quickly. Who said anything was wrong with it? Shock Wink (Wishing MN had an emoticon with both eyes closed) I'm just curious, I like hearing about family traditions. Was I typing with my eyes closed, and forgot to type "lighthearted", or did I post in AIBU by mistake?

Anyway, as we were. @ILiveInSalemsLot Lovely that your DD makes you close your eyes. Make sure she doesn't peep when you surprise her!
