Amber anklets for teething - are they worth it?

I was at a baby group today and another baby was wearing an amber anklet for teething. I'm just curious to know of people's experiences of them. Do they actually help baby's who are teething? Interested to hear people's experiences and knowledge of them. I'm more interested in the anklets, I wouldn't use a necklace out of personal choice. Thanks in advance for any comments! Smile

No. Why would it work?

CrackOn · 18/07/2019 19:46

I think they're just woo. And a potential choking/entanglement hazard.

Cyw2018 · 18/07/2019 19:47

There is no evidence base to them, and they are a choking hazard (and strangulation hazard if worn as a necklace).

No, they don't work.

GenevaMaybe · 18/07/2019 19:47

They are banned in lots of countries, which should probably tell you everything you need to know.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 18/07/2019 19:49

No of course not. If amber leached anything powerful enough to pass through skin and cause analgesic effect on the mouth, it would be widely used and prescribed to adults for toothache, not to mention have a side effects list as long as your arm.

But i expect it does have a calming placebo effect on the mothers, so is useful in that way during a difficult time.

No. They’re not like some things which don’t work but don’t do any harm. They’re a choking hazard.

Avoid.

georgialondon · 18/07/2019 19:50

No

Aquamarine1029 · 18/07/2019 19:50

They are rubbish and very, very dangerous.

TinyMystery · 18/07/2019 19:52

Agreed with the above. If you had a toothache, you’d be furious if someone suggested you rubbed a crystal on your face, rather than taking painkillers. It’s the same thing really.

Holenewme · 18/07/2019 19:54

If course they don’t work. At best they do no harm, at worst they could choke your child.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/07/2019 20:06

There is no reason why this would work.

HighlandWorrier · 18/07/2019 20:08

Tried it for my dd and utterly useless in fact she seemed worse than ever. Luckily the company I bought from have a very good returns policy and I sent back and they refunded me no problems.

SandraOhshair · 18/07/2019 20:09

No they dont work. Calpol is far more effective!

jma43 · 19/07/2019 01:41

Thanks all! That's what I thought anyway, will stick to calpol, teething toys and cuddles!

Always amazes me how many babies wear them.
