AIBU to not have a clue how to organise all this LEGO - Lego mums come in!

We don't have masses of Lego but both kids are getting into it and I'm going to sell some of their old toys to invest in more and ask relatives at Xmas too. What's the best way to organise and present it so they are easily inspired to play? Until now it's all thrown in one box and I think it's overwhelming for them. We have Lego ideas books but they don't have the pieces to make anything in there!

Also where can you get the regular building bricks? Everything seems to be sold in sets which once you've made it that item can't really go towards making much else?

Any Lego tips gratefully received!!!

Will post pics of our Lego collection in a sec...

We have one of these and have colour stored the Lego in each drawer.

One big box is what we have. We're currently in the transitional stage between Duplo and 'little lego' as it's called in our house. My DC prefer building their own crazy ideas instead of following sets.

It depends on how your kids build. Mine love to build and rebuild from the sets following the instructions, so we have drawers sorted by type and a big folder of instruction books.
Mixed up inherited Lego is stored in big buckets - empty onto a sheet for quick tidy up.

I have struggled with this for so long , mum of two boys .

The bigger (expensive sets) I have learnt from bitter experience and keep in in a glass cabinet that they can still play with but all the bits are together. The rest I have just bought the Ikea kallex with 4 sets of 2 drawers. So 8 little drawers. And I hope they can play on the top and keep the Lego in the 8 drawers. And the 4 empty cubes can be for displaying Lego

We store by colour and have one general stacking box for mixed up pieces.

We have it sorted by colour but we have A LOT so one big box wouldn’t work. Sorting by colour makes it easier to rebuild the sets but they also like to grab a box and make their own monochrome creations.
