CCTV or Ring type doorbell

Looking for suggestions please.

Short term rented house. Local kids messing around. A big stone was thrown and damaged my car.

We're going to put up a camera. We'll take it with us when we move and I'll have someone fix any holes. It'll need to be battery operated. Want it to connect to my mobile.

It needs to be positioned so it can see the end of the car length drive.

I've noticed the area is a magnet for kids and a few houses have noticable CCTV. We have dogs but they're big buggers and I don't want to get them involved, so the cameras seems to be the best way to go.

Does your front door have a spy hole? Ring do a wireless doorbell camera that replaces the spy hole. Otherwise you can just drill a hole in the door and fit it like that. Not sure if your front door is positioned in the right position for where you want to record, but thought I'd mention it. To watch Ring footage after it's been recorded requires a paid subscription, fyi. Something to think about. Otherwise you can only watch live streaming.

PearlHeart3 thank you. No spy hole.

Thinking more about it, I think a prominent cctv is the way to go. Will keep an eye out for the recording bit.

In that case both Ring and Nest have an outdoor cameras range which can be mounted to the outside of the house. Like Ring, Nest also requires a paid subscription to access the recorded footage though. I think Nest is currently £2.50 a month for one camera. A bit cheaper if you buy a year subscription.

I've seen people use indoor cameras though and have them pointed looking out of the window but that seems much more creepy and they don't put signage up that they are recording.

Sorry, Ring subscription is £2.50 per month for one camera and footage is saved for 30 days.

Nest is £4 a month for one camera but footage is saved only for the last 5 days.

I don't work for either of them, just recently installed a Ring doorbell cam and have an existing Nest camera.

We have cctv on our house after dh car was broken into and I bought an expensive car. It’s really handy to have as we’ve had dodgy blokes trying car doors, random people walking up our close, it’s on a bend and is a private road, there is no reason for them to come up our road.
We also have random people parking at the bottom of our road when they’re not meant to, they litter the road with their rubbish, so it gets posted back to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good to know, thank you.

Off to investigate further!

Longdistance which one did you go for?

We have a cctv which is linked to our devices. RX camview app, not sure what cctv it is, but fairly clear.
