How do I get rid of them!? I'm mortified 🤢😱 never had them before. name changed for this one!

Small tiny threadworms? Yeah they're not nice. We've all had them.

See the pharmacist. Get some OVEX

Tablets are grim, the liquid is 'banana' falvoured but not like any banana you've ever had. I get a real banana so my DDs can compare the flavours. It encourages them to have the medication.

gamerchick · 17/07/2019 21:23

Get some ovex, treat the whole family and again in a fortnight.

JamOnTheCarpet · 17/07/2019 21:23

www.nhs.uk/conditions/threadworms/

Pharmacy for worm killer. Treat everyone in the house.
Keep yourself and your clothes/bedding etc nice and clean.

WifOfBif · 17/07/2019 21:24

Wash all bedding and towels, clean everywhere (especially light fittings and door handles!), threat the whole family with Ovex and wear pants/pyjamas to bed for the next week.

elfycat · 17/07/2019 21:25

I haven't name changed. They are parasites, their evolutionary niche is our biology, it's going to happen.

Threadworms, nits, even scabies have been experienced by kids at the school this year. Luckily we seem to have dodged two of those. The other is being combed out (practically gone) and will be Vamoussed next Weds after school to guarantee an itch free summer.

forfoxsakes · 17/07/2019 21:29

Thank you! My daughter started school this last sept so I guess this where it's come from? I've not noticed her itching or anything.
Ok, trip to pharmacy first thing and 90 wash my bed covers.
Oh god it's a grim thought!

Take the pills twice two weeks apart, wear underwear at night wash bedding though I did it at 60. While family takes them as a precaution

Rainbowknickers · 17/07/2019 21:42

It’s caused by wiping not washing hands properly (if at all) then the eggs are picked up from under the nails and then hands in mouth
They come out to lay their eggs on a night
They are grim but easy to treat
You just need a trip to the chemist
I promise every family has had a visit from them but nobody talks about it

mollyblack · 17/07/2019 21:45

Awful but it happens. Get ovex tablets for everyone in the house and take them two weeks apart, be vigilant with hand washing, and towels/bedding. I was HORRIFIED the first time! Had them again since and it wasnt so bad. Now i keep ovex in the house! Kids in childcare for 10 years so far, its bound to happen. They say something crazy like 40% of school kids have them at any one time.

forfoxsakes · 17/07/2019 21:47

I'm a stickler for washing my hands, I washing after everything!
Will get to pharmacy first thing. Thanks! I guess getting to my 40s without having them before is a good run lol

Also if you have girls... TMI but....

Threadworms end up in the vagina as well as anus. Watch out for red, raw and painful vulva. Actual pain rather than itching. DD1 was inconsolable when she first got them. That night was a sudocreme, piriton and calpol moment.

Likethebattle · 17/07/2019 22:56

I had them for a while as a teenager and was too embarrassed to tell my mum. After a bout of food poisoning they were gone...very weird!

Thismummyruns · 17/07/2019 22:59

I'm starting to worm my 5 year old every 6 weeks because of these fuckers from school.

They are the bain of my life. She's very good at hand washing but is constantly picking up the little fuckers. I've also turned into a neurotic cleaner at home. My OH thinks I'm barking mad. I now change our toothbrushes weekly and am spending a fortune on washing detergent Confused

Ovex is your friend. The tablets are foul, the liquid slightly less so

Benjispruce · 17/07/2019 23:00

Sleep in pants.Shower as soon as you get up to wash eggs from around your bottom as they lay them overnight.
It will take a few days to stop. It’s hell, you have my sympathy. I actually took a third dose too.

Benjispruce · 17/07/2019 23:02

Yes you could have them from changing beds. Try not to disturb the bedding too much when you remove it or wear a mask and open windows.

intelligentPutty · 17/07/2019 23:54

Elfy. So glad to hear that was not just us my poor dd (age 5) was in soo much pain that night and the next.
