Cannot believe that Christmas has come in July!

We were at a local pub last weekend - they already have their Christmas display with tinsel, pine cones and glitter suggesting people book for Christmas Day! This is getting totally out of hand - can't people enjoy summer and the holidays without getting bogged down with thoughts of Christmas! I asked the girl behind the bar about it and she said they had been told they had to put the stuff out. Absolute madness - and I hate Christmas anyway!

We've already booked our office Christmas party, doing it now means we get the date and venue we want and then we can forget about it for a few months.

I started Xmas shopping in May
Booked all our activities for Nov/dec
Now I just mostly forget about it for a few weeks occasionally adding to the dc presents

redexpat · 17/07/2019 19:14

You know that there are MNers who start planning next xmas on boxing day, right? So July is positively last minute!

beachcomber70 · 17/07/2019 19:14

A local charity shop, when I went in, I saw had changed the layout...last week...so I then noticed it was because it was making way for a sizeable display of Christmas items!

I couldn't believe my eyes as it wasn't even mid July. What was crazier was the bin of Christmas tags, gift bags and wrapping paper in a bin outside the door. Insane.

I have to try and be organised and have a lot going on, I couldnt cope if it was last minute and something went wrong like dc Ill or similar I need to be super organised and ready

YABU, a lot of places get booked up really far in advance. I used to work in hotels where people would attend party nights and then call the next working day to book in for the following year.

Personally I'm going to New York for 6 days at the start of December so the aim is to have all gifts etc organised by the end of November. Once I get home it'll be full Christmas mode. You've just reminded me that I need to book our annual trip to Edinburgh Castle - we go every year and have lunch in one of the fancy rooms and then go for a wander around the markets. This year they are giving an afternoon tea option so need to pick which we're going for.

It's like anything though if there is enough interest it will be organised that far in advance. There was a music festival here last weekend, earlybird tickets go on sale for next year tomorrow. I'm currently booking our Outer Hebridean adventure for next June and some of my preferred accommodation is already sold out. People like to be organised and for me I like to have something to look forward to, especially in the shit storm that is the UK at the moment!

Ooops sorry - just realised this isn't in AIBU Confused

The supermarkets and M&S have been selling school uniforms since last half term under the banner 'Back to School' - at least let the kids start their holiday.

The clothes shops are still selling summer clothes, though a lot in the sales, but winter coats and woolly jumpers are appearing too.

2020 calendars are in the shops, and I give it till 1st August before the Christmas cards join them.

Why can't we just enjoy where we are in the year????

CardinalCopia · 18/07/2019 10:30

Disney Store has their Christmas ornaments in this week. May have bought one as well...

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/07/2019 10:34

I really like it all, signs that it won't be long till autumn (summer is my least favourite season).

fussychica · 18/07/2019 11:29

Madness. At Royal Academy Summer Exhibition yesterday, they have their Xmas cards on display already.

I like Christmas but absolutely hate the far too early build up. We try to get away from both that and the lousy weather in November and return 10 days before Christmas, this means enough time to enjoy the festivities without a month of being bombarded by it all. Portugal this year. Smile

Deathraystare · 18/07/2019 12:21

I can't believe it is July!!!! Was Christmas last year!

Deathraystare · 18/07/2019 12:21

I meant last week! Bit of an exaggeration but I was thinking this only the other day!!

CakeNinja · 18/07/2019 13:25

The work email went round on Monday about our Christmas do. People were huffing and puffing about it, asking why we needed to worry about it now.
Generally because of we waited until September we would have incredibly limited options and we are a largeish group (maybe 70 people) which generally means at least half of the type of venue we end up at (restaurant usually).
