One gluten free (my sister) and traditional eaters so no spicy foods etc.

We will be out at a show for 2.5 hours. I have a warmer (buffer server) that will keep warm baby and mashed potatoes.

Chicken breasts (on the bone from local butcher). Will brown these and put on low in two slow cookers. Make Jamie Oliver get ahead gravy and heat this and steam veg / microwave stuffing.

I have a bit of help serving up. Could get some Yorkshire puds to put in the oven to pad out the dinner.

Apple crumble for after with ice cream with tea and coffee.

This is as hassle free I think as I can do ? Anything missing

OP has said her guests won't eat spicy food, so why suggest chilli and curry? I agree a chicken thigh casserole might turn out better than chicken breasts.

Neither curry or chilli need to be hot though. I mean I'd prefer they were but lots of people who don't like hot food eat them at our family gatherings

Thanks so much. Maybe I need a rethink and cold for a cold buffet?
Curry would work for some guests but most won't eat curry etc. Dh doesnt like cold food at all Hmm

What about mild chilli and jacket potatoes?

Chilledout11 · 17/07/2019 19:09

I would love that chiki but it won't go down well. I could get cooked turkey and ham and serve that with potatoes. Takeaway is looking like a good option though 🤣

Sausage casserole made with gf sausages would be fine in your slow cookers....with jackets done slowly in oven.

ChikiTIKI · 17/07/2019 19:25

I have seen a slow cooker recipe before which involves pork chops and onions and condensed soup ( chicken or mushroom)

Don't know if it's nice or if it's gluten free though...

What about bolognese? Cook the pasta when you get back. Even faster if you use fresh pasta. Would need to do gluten free pasta too though or some other alternative.

feelingverylazytoday · 17/07/2019 19:28

I'd do a cold buffet at this time of year, a selection of meat, cheese board, salads and crusty bread (with a GF alternative for your sister) . Pavlova for afters.

Grinchly · 17/07/2019 23:44

Honestly try the ham. It sounds revolting but is sensational. Can't link to recipe but maybe someone can.

Butterymuffin · 17/07/2019 23:50

It needs to be a beef / pork / gammon thing to avoid drying out. Or at the very least, chicken thighs not breasts.

Chilledout11 · 18/07/2019 17:56

I think I am going to do curry (for those who will eat it) and cook a gammon. Potato salad pasta salad and so on.

The older folk could have mash and veg with the gammon.
