North or South Devon

We are not having a proper holiday this year due to a big move abroad in September, but I am craving some English countryside before we leave and have decided to go camping for a few days in Devon.

I've shortlisted two sites, one in the North near Woolacombe, and one in the South near Torquay and would like recommendations/opinions please.

Kids are 6 and 10, both campsites are equal, travel is the same, we like beaches, playing in the woods, cycling if we can fit the bikes in, and nice (but not posh) restaurants after the first night of camp cooking.

Thanks!!

There’s a lot more to do around Torquay: Babbacombe Model Village, Kent’s Cavern, Living Coasts, Dinosaur World, Bygones Victorian Museum, Paignton Zoo, Paignton Pier and Splashdown.

I think North Devon is much nicer personally. Woolacombe is lovely, as is the area around Hartland. You also have easy access to Exmoor. We make a stop at Lynton and Lynmouth on the way back usually.

North! For a holiday (South to live)

Woolacombe, Saunton, Croyde. All amazing beaches. Try out a surf school too. Visit Exmoor for walks. Lynton and Lynmouth cliff railway and perhaps walk to Watersmeet. Combe Martin Dinosaur Park and Watermouth Castle if you want some basic kiddie attractions. Big Sheep and Quince Honey Farm attractions too a little further away and Ive never been to them but check out reviews and websites.

Trips from Ilfracombe on different types of boats. If its not choppy I love a day trip to Lundy Island (weve stayed in the cittahes there).

Bad weather: Ilfracombe and Barnstaple have a indoor swimming pool. Some Woolacombe holiday parks might have too.

We recently ate at Depot the pub restaurant at Mullacott in between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and it was really good! Also Chinese Emporer Court in Ilfracombe that one is eat in or takeaway.
