How do you get a toddler to leave their penis alone?!

One of my twins is driving me absolutely crackers right now. He’s nearly 3, ASD, visual impairment, very sensory seeking (usually mouthing or spinning).

Months ago he was constantly pushing the front of his nappy down and therefore weeing absolutely everywhere if I didn’t notice. We put him in vests and it stopped. Problem solved.

Then recently he had chicken pox and a nasty infection in the pox on his nappy line / around his genitals. It’s all totally healed now but he got used to scratching there and obviously remembered about his favourite toy 🙄

He’s now figured out he can push his nappy down even through clothing so vests, onesies, dungarees etc don’t help. It’s harder to spot he’s done it too so I’m having to change his clothes so often, more laundry etc.

I am absolutely exhausted as it is, the last month has been brutal, chicken pox x 2, DH and DT2 have had a sickness bug, DT1 cut his forehead open this morning so we had to go to A&E for the first time... I’ve just had enough and I can’t take it any more!

Is there anything I can do? I’ve tried distracting him. Nothing works. I’m wondering if he could still be itchy somehow or maybe he has a UTI, but he doesn’t show any signs of discomfort when urinating or when messing with himself.

Anyone been through this? Any words of wisdom?

Following for ideas - mine’s 7 and it’s not much better

Sorry to hear that :(

It would be much more manageable if he were potty trainable or if he would use a fiddle toy or anything like that. I’m just at W complete loss.

I tell DS to leave his willy alone because it has wee wee germs (It gets a bit irrirated sometimes because he doesn't drink enough water)
Would he understand something along the lines of 'if you scratch it, it will be sore?'

Failing that, washable fabric nappies look like they'd be harder to undo.

No, he doesn’t understand any words so he wouldn’t understand.

A reusable nappy is a very good shout - I will try that ASAP.

Underpants over the top of his nappy will make it harder to push down as the elastic around the waistband of the pants helps hold it in place. DD is a fan of sneakily unfastening her nappy through her clothes so that it moves out of place, or even drops off entirely depending on what she's wearing, but since I started putting knickers on over the top of her nappy shes doing it less frequently because they add an extra layer of difficulty so she decides not to bother.
