Teething - is this really it?

I have a very happy 26wk old dd, barely ever cries until today!!!!

She has a temperature, I was getting between 38 and 38.4 but when got her to GPS they got 37.4. Her temp has varied between those temperatures all day according to my thermometer. She has had 2 2.5ml doses of calpol which don't seem to have done anything for her really but probably helped with the temperature.

Could this be teething? How long will this part last? I know its a stage they have to go through but bloody hell it's heartbreaking seeing her in tears every two minutes.

The nurse practitioner we saw said she had a sore throat so it could be that but she is the right age for teeth, maybe they will go hand in hand.

I haven't tried any teething relief yet as she doesn't have rosey cheeks so I'm not entirely sure it is teeth. I wish I knew!! Scared myself shirtless reading about anbesol and all the different gels too. Is it possible to get through it with calpol alone?

The GP thinks she is fighting some sort of infection. Could be teeth but not sure. His advice was just to continue with calpol. She has seemed a little bit better 5oday, temperature is finally down but she is still very upset.

I've not tired neurofuen as the GP said calpol is better and less reactions. Debating trying some astons and parsons but that won't do much if it is an infection.

Walking around with her in the pram helps settle her.

The wee soul. It's just horrible when they're sick. You feel so powerless. I'd probably try ibuprofen if calpol doesn't appear to be having any noticeable effects. Sometimes people respond better to one than the other.
Hope you're coping ok OP. Thanks

Hope she feels better soon and that you both get some sleep tonight.

Thanks everyone. I'm just so upset for her.

Popped down to the pharmacist and they have suggested anbesol so I've bought it and will give it a try tomorrow if she is still in a state.

Fortunately she slept not too bad last night. Cried out 3 or 4 times but a quick cuddle and back rub and she went back to sleep.

Im coping OK I think just so sad for her.

Sorry, another question for you experienced ones, dd came out in a rash yesterday. Looks like a heat rash but on her arms and legs, normally gets them in her torso. I've done the glass check they dissappear and she does seem a bit better today although not back to herself.

Could you get a rash if you were fighting off an infection?

The only other thing she had different yesterday was half an astons and parsons sachet and some Ella's kitchen melty puffs tomato and leek.

Rashes are common reaction to viral infections.

All I needed to know, thank you! Such a worry. So glad she's not in tears all day so far and no meds either - bonus!

Sounds like you're getting through it now then. 🙂

Thank goodness that was flipping awful. I now have anbesol as well if needed, had a try myself this morning no idea why I was so worried. Thanks everybody.

DD often comes out in rashes on her legs when she's been under the weather.

Nurofen really worked for us when teething. Or sore throat tbh. And teetha. This sounds like a virus though. Poor thing

Thank you. The rash is easing today by the looks of things. I am hopeful it was an infection, I know dd will be grizzly and unhappy when teething but two days of sleep or crying was heartbreaking to see especially considering what she is normally like. Thank goodness she is on the mend and has her little smile back.

Thanks for seeing me through this, I know I need to man up as we have lots more of this to come but wow that was tough.
