Mysterious spots or bites

I wonder if anyone might be able to help me identify what is causing these spots/bites on my DS? He is 4.

We first noticed them (only about 6 of them) around 2 weeks ago and thought maybe he had a mild case of chickenpox but it wasn't causing him any issue at all so we left them.

Then over the past 2 weeks he has developed more and more and with new ones appearing every day and the old ones fading.

I took him to the doctor who said it wasn't chickenpox because of the timelines and not bed bugs either (thank goodness! I was panicking!!) but didn't know what they were.

We thought maybe he is being bitten but surely not everywhere he goes and no one else in our house has them.

It is a bit of a mystery and I am going to take him back to the doctors again as I assume it must be chickenpox but thought I would see if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

They are itchy (calamine in the evening sorts that out) but not too bad and he has no other symptoms.

Molloscum contagisum

Haybo26 · 15/07/2019 21:22

Yes, I think they look like Molluscum Contagiosm too. They can take a long long long time to go if they are and very contagious.

Wow thank you I have never even heard of this. I have read the nhs description of it and it seems v likely. Poor little chap :-( I wonder how he caught them.

We also have a 5 months old DS so praying that he doesn't catch them too.

I will suggest this to the doctor....if we can ever get an appointment.

My son actually has this on his chest just now started with one which I thought was a wart and then quickly spread went to drs who confirmed it,no treatment and will eventually stop spreading and go his has been very itchy and have come to a head and will hopefully disappear soon ,he is nearly 13 so is very conscious of it

yomommasmomma · 15/07/2019 21:38

Sorry to hear that Foxy. What an odd thing, I have never heard of it before. I suppose it can be caught from anyone but rather upsetting. Is there anything that can be done? Did the doctor suggest anything?

Doctors don't usually do anything to treat Molluscum. I bought some Colloidal Silver off Amazon which helped clear it up on my daughter

babysharkah · 15/07/2019 21:41

Molloscum. Got to ride them out,

MrsEricBana · 15/07/2019 21:45

Yes almost certainly molliscum. It's very weird. Loads come them after several months (unfortunately) they just disappear pretty much overnight. Both my dcs had it.

foxyknoxy30 · 15/07/2019 21:46

No Dr told me the same just to bide your time and it will eventually go.

Qwerty09876 · 15/07/2019 21:48

My DD has this and it spread every where, she started to pick them which then they started to disappear

yomommasmomma · 15/07/2019 21:49

Thank you so much for all your replies this is so helpful, I have been so worried trying to figure out what they are. What an odd thing is it is this. Will suggest to the doctor. Makes me feel sad for him but at least this doesn't seem to be serious and just the spots.

yomommasmomma · 15/07/2019 21:54

That makes me feel more positive thank you WTF. Sorry your child has them too.

My son had them on his arm when he was around 6. The Dr said they dont treat them and said they will go on their own....they never...they just got worse. So I took matters into my own hands. After a bath a few times a week, I'd prick each one gently with a sterile pin and rubbed tea tree oil gently in. Worked a treat. They were gone within 2 weeks of doing it. Am I cruel?! 😚
