Shaving after stitches??

aewwwenxt · 15/07/2019 19:53

Okay so I gave birth on the 7th, had a second degree tear and so needed stitches.
I'm now a bit itchy down there I think due to pubes so want to shave.
I've tried having a look in the mirror to see where the stitches are so I know where to avoid but I can't see anything?? Is the whole outside okay to shave or should I avoid anywhere? Forgot to ask the midwife today and not seeing the health visitor until Thursday but not sure I can wait that long if I don't have to

Leave it alone unless you want a third degree tear

daddykool99 · 15/07/2019 19:57

usually ripped between both orifices , so front should be ok , happened to my wife and my friends wife same place

MammaMia19 · 15/07/2019 20:00

Is it itchy because it’s stubbly or are the stitches itchy? Mine went itchy when they healed so I’d probably leave it alone for a few more weeks

I've never really shaved where the hole is so wasn't really going to go there too much but don't want to tear more 😖

Stitches are itchy which I can deal with, it's the part above the clitorus that's causing issues

God no leave well alone! I had an episiotomy and shaving was the last thing on my mind....I couldn't bloody wee for weeks without it stinging so noway was I letting a razor near it!

It could be itchy for other reasons - stick some sudocrem on!

daddykool99 · 15/07/2019 20:17

OOPS you never said at the beginning it was at the front where the problem was, leave alone

aewwwenxt · 15/07/2019 20:31

Yes weeing is an issue right now.
I've left alone as advised and will continue to do so - hopefully it'll grow out if this awkward itchy stage soon!
I did shave my legs though as I'd left them for over a week and I feel so much better! Clean pyjamas and sheets tonight so I can really appreciate it 😂

I left mine for 3 months and was still
Scared to shave after that , I would leave alone ! Get a frozen sanitary pad down to take some itchiness away

namechange35 · 15/07/2019 21:43

Lukewarm bath with salt in it . I had stitches in my clitoral hood a few years ago after an op , and a lot of swelling - that was the only way I could get relief to sit in a cool bath . Cotton wool with a tiny bit of witch hazel too or cold water might help .

Pepperstripe · 15/07/2019 22:45

I remember having to lean right forward on the toilet to angle my wee away from my stitches. Have a bath with some tea tree oil and a cup of milk (normal drinking milk). It soothed the stitches and it meant I could wee in the bath, sting free! (Not the most hygienic but meh)

Rachelover40 · 15/07/2019 23:19

It's quite normal to feel itchy when you've been stitched. Don't shave for a well, it won't help.

apacketofcrisps · 15/07/2019 23:23

@daddykool99 wtf

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 16/07/2019 03:12

I can't believe you're even contemplating letting a razor anywhere near your stitches after a week??!? Try a bath. If money isn't tight, try myexpertmidwife"s spritz for bitz.

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2019 05:27

What on earth is daddykool99 on about? Confused

ReganSomerset · 16/07/2019 05:42

Oh dear, hope it stops itching soon. I'm impressed that you were shaving so late into pregnancy- I let mine grow wild in the last few months! I did avoid this issue though.

aewwwenxt · 16/07/2019 09:29

Glad I'm not the only one confused by the liquorice comment 😕
I shall try the frozen pads and witch hazel thank you!
I shaved the morning of my induction not thinking about regrowth 🤦‍♀️ typical 19 year old afraid of the midwives seeing some pubic hair when they looked down there 😂

In fairness I shaved right up until my little one was born. My other half had the pleasure 😂 The amount of hair drove my crazy! However once baby was born it was the last thing on my mind until my swelling went down.

ReganSomerset · 16/07/2019 09:51

I also agree with pp- don't shave yet. Main reason being that when you shave, little bits of hair end up everywhere and if they end up in your stitches it could cause discomfort, worsen scarring and possibly even increase your risk of infection. Not worth it imo.

BenWillbondsPants · 16/07/2019 10:12

Leave it alone.

aewwwenxt · 16/07/2019 10:37

@ReganSomerset yes the little hairs were something that crossed my mind!
I shall just wait until I get checked over in a couple weeks and see what's said then. I just want to feel like myself again but don't want to push anything and make the healing process worse
