How to stop a cat shitting in my garden?

A few weeks ago I saw a big ginger cat sitting in my garden on a specific patch of stoney area maybe 7ft by 7ft..since that day there has been shit on it every single day. So I am assuming it is that cat. There are multiple foxes in the area but also wide expanses of grass/forrest etc so seems odd one fox a night would come to my garden. I think it's the cat and its decided these stones are its toilet.

I'm lying in the garden and despite having lifted and binned all the cat shit I can see I can smell it. Presumably there is some I have missed. It stinks.

I'm not having this all summer.

I dont want to harm the cat obviously. Any ways that work to put it off from pooing in my sun lounging patch.

My grandparents used to put empty soda bottles filled with water in their garden. Apparently, it mimics cats eyes which keeps them out. If that fails, soak old tea bags with Jayes fluid and place them all around the perimeter of your garden - they don't like the smell. Good luck.

Don't use Jeyes Fluid, it is fatally toxic to cats and you could end up killing it.

"Plant" some canes around it's preferred toilet area so it can't comfortably get in and squat down. Also keep a loaded water pistol near the door/window and every time you see it in your garden give it a blast of water, it won't hurt the cat but it will put it off visiting your garden. You can buy ultrasonic devices that give off a noise cats don't like but I'm not sure how effective they are. Alternatively, they hate the smell of citrus, lavender, rosemary, chives, and pennyroyal so you could try planting some of those around the borders of your garden or spraying some citrus oils around too.

Fox poo looks and smells completely different to cat poo.

Jeyes fluid is only toxic if they drink the stuff, it's fine once it's dried, as per the instructions on the bottle.
We use a combination of Jeyes fluid and one of those ultrasound thingies.

Soaker

I never see it. I am always at work. And that big of garden isn't overlooked by any windows apart from a stained glass one.

So spraying it with water wont work

We put holly down in our garden and the very annoying cat has not reappeared!

snowy0wl · 15/07/2019 14:41

+1 for holly leaves. Worked for me too.

CardinalCopia · 15/07/2019 14:53

Curry plant is effective planted in the area they use. They really don't like the scent.

DeepfriedPizza · 15/07/2019 14:55

Get a dog

NewName54321 · 15/07/2019 15:07

You can buy lion poo granules that will scare off the cat (as it thinks a bigger cat has marked its territory). Presumably they are treated so they don't smell to human noses.

A more traditional method is to half-fill plastic pop bottles and lay them down on the ground, so they reflect the cat's image, but distort it so the reflected car looks bigger IYSWIM.

Google says that it's possible to buy movement-sensor water sprays that would do the same job as the water pistol without the effort.

Cats are particular about where they go. If you dig over some dirt for planting (for example) and then leave it, they'd love that as they like soft earth. They also prize privacy. I really doubt a cat would just poo on a hard surface out in the open. Sounds much more like the work of a fox to me!

Branleuse · 15/07/2019 16:08

Get your own cat.

alltalknobaby · 15/07/2019 16:29

Garlic granules. Sprinkle liberally and they never poo there again.

Ofjoseph · 15/07/2019 16:49

Those metal cats are good.
The super sonic noise things are great.

I found anything with scents/smells didn't work but the above things do 95% of the time.

BringOnTheScience · 15/07/2019 16:56

Replace the fine stones with bigger flat flint pieces. It's worked a treat to stop the multiple cats that were plaguing my gravelled areas.

Knittedjimmychoos · 15/07/2019 17:28

Same here with gravel op! I'm taking mine up.
Horrid things.
