Security for a bungalow

ladybird69 · 15/07/2019 02:01

I’ve recently moved into a bungalow and have a small garden room built onto my bedroom with patio doors. The thing is I’m used to sleeping with my bedroom window open which I can’t do now. I have the patio doors open, I’m just going to close them, but I just get so hot, anyone have any ideas or where I can get some advice. Tia Flowers

Could you have rooflights put into the garden room? Is it uPVC?

Could you fit security fly screen doors to the outside so they could be locked and the inside doors kept open?

We are in Aus where single level living (not called bungalows here) is really common, as is the heat, so that's what a lot of people do.

I don’t want to put in roof windows as I’ve paid extra for a special roof to keep room warm in winter and cool in summer, and even tho it’s still under construction it’s very cool whilst outside is mid twenties.
I must look into screen doors if they do them in UK. Thanks for your ideas.

Lol ‘bungalows ‘ are for the old and infirm here in uk, so nobody wants them. I Fell in love with the single storey villas in Florida whilst on holiday, so mine is single storey country cottage 😉

I heard bungalows were massively in demand here!
I’ve seen basement flats round my way with security grille type doors.

I also live in Australia...and as Previous Poster said, you can get metal fly screen doors.

But it's not the same. One thing I hate about this house is that every window has screen on it ...we DO need it because of bugs but GOD I miss a breeze!

The only other thing is to get a big dog....and some security alarms and just leave the bugger open. Leaving a door open in a bungalow is no different than leaving a window open in a bungalow.

It;s all risky....what's your fence like? Could you get a much higher one?

We used to put a wooden pole (a cut broomstick) in the inside track of the sliding door the pole was cut so the door only opened a few inches and that made me feel better leaving it open at night.

We also had a fly screen but it seemed flimsy.

Troels you can get metal ones....not that floppy stuff but hard metal.
