Hi everyone- as the title says .. if you don’t iron ... how/what/when/where?!??
I’ll attach a picture to this but I fail to see how I can live without ironing these white work shirts and ds school shirt each week plus black school and work trousers ... help?
I have to iron jeans and tops before wearing.
I’ve cut it down to ironing casual clothes as I go but I’d hate ironing these shirts etc every night or morn before work.
I wash my clothes and either hang on line or in airing cupboard to dry.Do you all have a magical washing machine that doesn’t crease clothes when they’ve been washed or do you spend ten mins shaking/folding out every crease before drying?!?! Help....

My kids wear their shirts wrinkled, they have to wear a blazer though so you don’t see it.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 19:00

Shirts and school wear are the only things I iron. I do them on a Sunday. Anything else gets put away once dry

YorkieTheRabbit · 14/07/2019 19:02

I take stuff out of the washer as soon as it finishes and when I take clothes from the line or airer, I fold them neatly. I hardly ever need to iron anything. Grin

orangeshoebox · 14/07/2019 19:03

slow spin.
flick and hang up to dry, possibly pulling gently into shape.
trousers - fold along the crease and hang up to dry.

Redcrayons · 14/07/2019 19:03

I wouldn't iron school shirts which looked like that because my DCs aren't allowed to take their blazers off so nobody would see it. Although they don't get that bad as I take them out of washing machine and straight onto hangers. A blast in the tumble dryer would take the worst off that.

I don't iron very much I have about ten things which need ironing and they're mostly special occasion stuff so I do it as and when.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/07/2019 19:04

I give everything a good shake before I hang it on the line outside. The wind does the ironing for me!

LouLouLoupee · 14/07/2019 19:06

I don’t iron. DH irons the school uniforms in the mornings. He also does any other odd bits that need doing. I haven’t ironed since my mum paid me as part of my chores!

HappydaysArehere · 14/07/2019 19:08

Use hangers for tops, shirts etc.
Take washing out as soon as poss.
Don’t buy linen clothes.

gotmychocolateimgood · 14/07/2019 19:09

My DCs have non iron shirts (might be called easy iron? Cotton but not polo tops). I don't even fold or hang them. They grab one out of the clean washing pile and after a few minutes of wear their body heat vanishes the wrinkles. Truth.

HardAsSnails · 14/07/2019 19:11

That shirt looks like it's been left in the machine or in a pile for a while before hanging up.

You need to remove stuff from the machine as soon as it's finished. Shake/flick each item firmly and then hang carefully and not too close together. Softener helps reduce creases. Don't overload either your machine or your line/airer.

Thecrown3 · 14/07/2019 19:18

Aha so ppl do iron work stuff /school stuff .
That shirt is my work shirt and has been hung straight on line within 20 mins of machine finishing! They can’t be put in tumble as their crap government issued polyesterHmm and have a funny smell when tumbled!!
I just hate the thought of my rest days filled with at least an hrs worth of ironing work and school shirts...

Straight out of the machine. Really good shake, put on a hanger with at least the top button fastened and hang in a breeze if possible.

EmrysAtticus · 14/07/2019 19:21

I don't buy anything which requires ironing. Do you have to wear a shirt for work? If not then ditch them and choose clothes which are work appropriate and don't require ironing :)

sirmione16 · 14/07/2019 19:23

Hang it in your bathroom when you have a shower, steam drops some of the creases out. Admittedly has worked for me for some tops but not others, I've done zero research into materials or why.

Thecrown3 · 14/07/2019 19:34

Yup have to wear the shirts ... ds’s same though too.
Even when I shake out and hang they’re still creased !!
I wash on 30c wash with 1000rpm spin

Orangepear · 14/07/2019 19:36

Yes, don't put too much in the machine. I've saved £10 a month on electricity since I stopped ironing!

BertieBotts · 14/07/2019 19:36

We don't have clothes like that :o

We do occasionally iron when one of us does want/need to wear clothes like that.

HeadintheiClouds · 14/07/2019 19:37

Mine don’t come out of the machine like that. Are you taking them straight out at the end of the cycle? They look as if they’ve either been left to partially dry while crumpled or there have been too much crammed into the washing machine

LIZS · 14/07/2019 19:39

Non iron, hang up as soon as wash finishes.

GreenTulips · 14/07/2019 19:40

30 isn’t high enough for work shirts

40 degrees hang by the tail end straight down to add weight and peg on the side seems

Hang on hangers when dry

Livebythecoast · 14/07/2019 19:55

I iron on a Sunday morning listening to radio 2 love songs!
Not my favourite chore but has to be done. I've never really thought about not ironing tbh. I don't overload washing machine, take clothes out within a nano second of it finishing but still creased Confused.
I tried the 'iron free option' on washing machine once - why would I not chose that? Took 3 hours and absolutely no difference!

Tentomidnight · 14/07/2019 20:22

Buy non iron shirts (M&S are good) and wash them in a half load and hang immediately.

Itellpeopletogoogleit · 14/07/2019 20:27

None of my clothes get that wrinkled. Don't overload the washing machine, take the laundry out of the washing machine as soon as it's finished, give every item a good shake and either peg on the line or hang proper shirts on cost hangers to dry inside.

CakeNinja · 14/07/2019 20:27

Never ever iron (dp occasionally will if he needs a shirt for going out). None of my kids’ uniforms have ever come out of the tumble dryer looking like that. And I’m shit at washing. They stay in the tumble dryer overnight sometimes and still have never looked like that!
I buy shirts from the non iron range in M&S.

Thecrown3 · 14/07/2019 20:28

I do tend to wash a big load !
