Portsmouth tips

I'm hoping to visit Portsmouth soon with my son. I want to visit the dockyard and the d day museum. I think he's been to the castle and Portsmouth museum before. Is there anything else I should visit which would be interesting?

The Spinnaker tower is good, it’s at Gunwharf Quays right next to the dockyard and there’s loads of places to have lunch on the waterfront. How old is your son?

There is loads to see at the dockyard, could easily take a full day. The boat trip (included in the price) is pretty uninformative but good to get your bearings (and have a sit down whole doing something). And the Spinnaker is a good add-on if it's a clear day. Gunwharf itself is a chainy shopping mall though the location is fab.
If you're going down to Southsea for the D-day museum, a walk along the seafront to Old Portsmouth is definitely worth it. And there are some great independent places to eat in Southsea. There's a water play park and skateboard park on the Common that might appeal depending on your son's age.

Thanks.
Do you think the dockyard, the Mary rose and the d day museum is too much for two days?

The d day museum is doable in about 1-2hours max

The dockyard will take all day, maybe part of the next day too if the d day museum only takes a couple of hours, I haven't been there for over 25 years!

We went to the dockyard a couple of years ago, the ticket includes, boat trip, Mary rose, victory, warrior, submarine and it's museum in gosport as well as smaller boats and exhibitions. We actually rearranged our holidays to go back 3 extra times as you can use the ticket as many times as you like in a year, it's excellent value, especially if live nearby (we're in w mids)

Love it there, the Mary rose centre is fascinating, I don't think I've ever stayed so long in one museum, they had to kick us out to close!

The forts are good. Nelson is free to enter and often have activities during the school holidays. Blue reef aquarium is shit, don't bother. Southsea has a boating Lake, lovely parks etc, lots to do there cheap /free.

The Dockyard also has Action Stations which is the really hand on bit, I’ve yet to meet a 7 year old that doesn’t love it.

Ferry to Gosport and HMS Alliance submarine museum and "Explosion" the museum about naval guns.
