Shampoo bar recommendations

UnderTheSleepingBaby · 14/07/2019 13:48

I'm about to finally use up all my bottles of shampoo and want to switch to bars.

I need it to be SLS free and am trying to buy from ethical brands, lush is my only real awareness of these types of products and I have my reservations about them as a company.

I'd also appreciate recommendations for one for children too (although potentially they all are?) my kids are under 4.

Also a conditioner bar, assuming people find they still need conditioner.

Thanks for any help

Plenty in Lush which are really lovely.

Friendly soap

I’ve been using www.wild-sage.co.uk/product/handmade-natural-vegan-soap/shampoo-bar-rosemary-lavender for about a year now. You get a good lather & my hair’s really happy with it.

I’d much rather support a small business than give my money to Lush!

www.soapnuts.co.uk I have been using for a while and quite like. Soapnuts help if you live in a hard water area.

If you use a shampoo bar it is almost always alkaline because of the process they use to make it solid. You need to follow up with a acid rinse to condition and restore the ph balance of your hair. I use about 1cm of apple cider vinegar in the bottom of a kitchen jug and fill with water. You can also use diluted lemon juice, a tea or coffee rinse or combine a few things together. Coffee is best for darker hair, lemon if you want to lighten it etc.

Stay away from lush. Loads of chemicals. They really aren't as green as they make themselves out to be.

Thanks for the links and for the other thread, I'd done search but didn't find anything so I obviously need more practice!
Lots to try out until I find a favourite

Solid Soap Company

Pretty pricey, but Vegan friendly, no nasties, parabens, SLS, or palm oil. Large shampoo bar lasts me 3 months. It's a proper work out using it though.

The kids are using up the Lush ones which are easier to use because the still have a lot of the not so good chemicals in there. They lather up well.

The Solid Bar conditioner works really well on my hair, not tested it on the kids though who are much more prone to tangles and tears.

I used one from the Clovelly Soap company which was very vice but came in way too much packaging.

Currently using a Foamie Shampoo Bar which doesn't foam as much as th Clovelly but does have a little ribbon on so it doesn't sit getting mushy

Soaps for Little Suds. They are a small business with a FB page and will post out to you. Really good range of shampoo bars - I love them and have now ditched bottles (never, never thought I would do this) - the shampoos are so lovely and really good suds. They also do conditioner bars and liquid conditioners in glass bottles (I started using them to get soaps with little characters - lego, Disney etc put in for DDs party bags but have now become a total convert to shampoo bars).

I've tried loads but keep coming back to lush, because the others make my hair feel claggy, like I haven't rinsed it properly. However, I'd much prefer to swerve palm oil. Has anyone else had this problem and found a palm oil free bar that gives a squeaky clean feel?

The friendly soap company lavender one is the best so far but still not great.

Coming back to say I finally found a good one, little blue hen. Plastic and palm oil free, hair as nice as with liquid shampoo 👍
