Pregnant or peri menopause

Hi all, wasn’t sure whether to post in chat or women’s health but I figured I’d get more traffic here.

Ok so I’m 40, have regular cycles (24 days) that last 9days long. I track my cycles as additional contraception ( we use condoms).

My last period was rather epic at 13 days long- only heavy for the last 3 but long anyway. I’m now 6 days late. I did a first response test at 4 days late and negative( it was in the evening though). Yesterday I did a dither first response with fmu- negative too.

I’m glad they are negative as my family us complete but my question to you wise people is- any ideas what’s going on? I have got a dr appointment already booked for a different matter next week but should I be forking out on more tests ( do you still get false negatives these days) or am I becoming “ of that age”.

Incidentally I feel rubbish today but that’s probably worry.

Thanks all.

I am 43. My periods have been all over the place. My last one lasted 3 months. I went to the doctors in the end. Had some tests. I’m fine. She just thinks I’m starting peri menopause. Have a chat with ur doctor. I’m now on some new pills. My last period was four months but have not had one for ages. I’m always prepared now 😂

Thanks Dontgivea I’m wondering if this is the way I’m going. I thought my 13 day period was epic but yours have been something else!

I’m only booked into the dr this week for a single appointment so I think I’ll shelve what I was going to discuss ( fungal toenail urgh!!) and discuss my periods etc instead.

Yes do talk about this instead of your toenail!Grin Blood tests can determine whether you are peri menopausal or not which will give you some peace of mind. Last year I went from having no period for three months to having an epic one lasting a month. Which was when I went to the GP. I actually had full blood tests and a transvaginal ultrasound. I wasn’t flagged as peri however but the GP was able to diagnose both ovarian cysts and the autoimmune, pernicious anaemia. A combination of symptoms from both of which had led me to think I was peri and I was therefore in danger of ignoring them and thinking ‘it’s just the menopause’, which I think too many women are encouraged to think. Anyway, I’m receiving treatment for both now, but over the last year or so I’ve bought more pregnancy tests than in the previous thirty years! Grin.
Btw for your toenail, don’t bother with the expensive branded kits, that don’t work anyway, get some bifonazole or clotrimazole cream (canesten do it) smooth it on and under as much as you can, twice a day, works pretty quickly.

judashascomeintosomemoney I love that you gave me advice for both my problems!! Thank you😀.

I’m glad I’m not the only one buying pregnancy tests. I think it’s the peace of mind I’m seeking.

If the dr doesn’t mention the blood although he/ she probably will, I shall be brave enough to ask.
