A thread about children's books...

I'd love to start a thread for people to recommend children's books to one another. We have an abundance in our house already and I love adding to the collection. Books with beautiful illustrations, touching and/or funny stories, books with a lesson or discussion point, factual books, poetry books, books that make wonderful gifts. Everything and anything really as long as it's enjoyed by children.

In our house we love the Oi Frog/Dog/Cat etc books for funny and a bit of word play.

The Little People, Big Dreams are great for learning about real people in history.

Dr Seuss books are enjoyed by all.

We have a lovely book called Sweep with beautiful illustrations and a discussion point about thinking positively/ negatively

Giraffes can't Dance / The Lion who wanted to love also have great lessons in them about being an individual

MAPS is a beautiful book that looks at all the maps (believe it or not!) of the world and talks about the geography of each area

I'd love to hear your suggestions Smile

For beautiful books we like the Quentin Blake collections (Mr magnolia, Mrs armitage etc)
Our go to stories are Soloman the crocodile, Koala that Could, Lion Inside, 10 little (anything), Never Use A Knife and Fork, Chicken that hatched a cow, all the Dinosaur that pooped books etc
We always buy the 10 books for £10 from The Works and essentially do a lucky dip.
DS adores his stories and we read about 5 every night as part of his bedtime routine. Quite often I'll read whatever book I'm reading aloud too if we're in the garden (obvs censored) so we're very much a 'story fam'

Oh, but I can't stand Dr Seuss books. They irritate me so, so much. I find them impossible to enjoy!

Ds loved the Dr Seuss books. He also loved Shirley Hughes and Judith Kerr books, the Mog books are brilliant!
He’s 10 now and is into a series about a boy spy called Alex Rider (by Anthony Horowitz).
