DS broke arms, need help with summer plans!

DS5 had a freak accident this week and has broken both of his arms. We had a lot of plans for over the holidays all of which are just not feasible anymore. The casts he’s in are shoulder to wrist on both.
I am gutted for him but really don’t want him to feel he’s had a crap summer. I have had to cancel all his summer camps and now I am pulling my hair out thinking of ways to get him out of the house over the next six weeks.

I also have 3 month old twins so I need to take them into consideration when planning. Any one have any suggestions? Not just for summer plans but also any tips for making life easier for him?

Are there any local sports teams you could develop an interest in? Cricket matches are an easy day out with lots of sitting down. Women's matches cost peanuts and the women's Ashes is on over the summer. It's embarrassing how cheap it is to see international (female) cricketers in action.

Your poor poor boy, hope he recovers well.

Art using your feet? Bare foot painting? All of you trying to colour using your feet? How long can you keep a balloon in the air just by kicking it? You could get a roll of paper (looks like wallpaper but in the creative section) in Wilko and just let him go wild with painted feet (also something fun to do on a play date). With clean feet could make slime/playdoh.

Could you get him a fancy hair style (something maybe he wouldn't be allowed in class) to make him feel extra special - if he says everyone is staring at him it's because of his hair.

I'm sure he'd still be able to do an acting/drama/singing summer workshop/camp - depending if you live local to a theatre/town.

Science museum and do science experiments at home.

Sorry I haven’t been back one of the twins ended up in hospital with an infection and my head was about ready to explode with stress Grin.

DS is doing very well, he ended up having surgery on his left arm because the break needed help healing, however we went for xrays a couple of weeks later and they have healed so well they think he can have both casts removed today!! We have an appointment at 2pm for xrays to double check the left elbow, they seemed pretty confident that by now he will be fine without the casts. He’s probably going to need physio and will have to be extra careful without the protection of the casts but he’s already awake he’s so excited.

Thank you all for your tips, we did plenty of picnics and national trust trips. Watched toy story 4 three times at the cinema with different school friends, we made little forkys** to take with us and he’s mastered the art of picking up cutlery with his feet Hmm He’s requested a cone ice cream after his appointment today because he can finally feed himself.

** I am pretty smug about my forky making skills so have attached a boast picture Grin

Poor DS. Glad to hear he's on the mend. Only just seen this thread and probably a bit late for you but when my DS broke his arm badly we got him a foot pedal exerciser thingy and he would 'cycle' while watching TV etc. He enjoyed the challenge and helped keep him fit (footballer!). Thought might help someone else

Boy you’ve been through the mill as a family.

Glad your boys arms are healing well and hope your twin is all better.

He will be so happy getting casts off and you’ll probably be panicking for ages at every little bump.

If he needs physio, it may be a while before he gets full movement back.

My DD was in cast for a lot longer and had surgery on her elbow. It did take a few months to get full movement back even with physio. Although the week she refused to do any exercises was the week she got most of the movement back. She was allowed to go back to gymnastics and went on the bars Shock.

Good luck today! Take an iPod and earphones for the casts getting removed if you think he will be nervous with the cutter thing.
