D's is 16. On Thursday he cut his thumb open with a knife separating frozen burgers. Had it glued and steri stripped at walk in centre.

The steri strips have come off. I really don't want to sit in a and e on a SATURDAY night. It's not bleeding.

It can wait until tomorrow right?

Can you not still buy steri strips?
I have them in my first aid box

No need for A&E if you just want steri strips, supermarkets now sell them along side the plasters. If it’s not bleeding I’d just cover it with a plaster and get a pharmacist to take a look tomorrow

If it’s not actively bleeding or gaping , clean thoroughly and cover with plaster.

Oh I don't know. Can you buy them over the counter?

I think the risk of not replacing them is that the wound might open.
And scar etc.

I have a wound on my finger and am struggling to keep my hand still and I'm pushing 40. Can only imagine how tough it is for a 16 year old.

I have the 3m kind and it looks like you can still buy them.

I think I'd pick up some steri strips in the chemist, and just make sure it doesnt reopen.
No need to A&E, but given where it is, I think I'd make sure it didn't split again.

Ahh missed those posts. I'll cover it up then. It's gaping but not bleeding. Doesn't look as if it got pulled together at all. Got non fluffy bandage in my accident box. Thank you

Hydrocolloid plasters from asda are my current favourite for healing stuff quickly btw

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/07/2019 21:04

Really? I'd whack a plaster on that and not give it a second thought 😕

Steri strips are really only useful on fresh wounds, looks to me like it will just need to heal by secondary intention/granulation now, like any wound where the opposing edges are too far apart. Just keep it clean as bacteria will delay wound healing.
