Have you ever seen it, and if so did you say it and did it get sorted?!

I want to know because this is driving me bloody mad every time I get on a train, but if it helps prevent an incident I’ll just have to suck it up I suppose!

I’m just wondering whether anyone has actually reported anything?

Yes I travel in London for work and noticed a bag left on a train out of Waterloo station, thought it was a bit odd so mentioned it to the train conductor (one of the few services in London that still have them!) and it was sorted!

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 13/07/2019 22:28

I noticed an abandoned rucksack tucked under a bus seat on my way to work. I told the driver and he got everyone off the bus and phoned the police.

Many years ago (mid 90s) DSis spotted an abandoned rucksack outside the army recruitment place opposite our house. DF rang the police. Street was evacuated, controlled explosion. Turned out to belong to a squaddie...we felt quite sorry for him as we imagined he was not popular but at that time it wasn’t a risk worth taking.

bookmum08 · 13/07/2019 22:41

Yes.
Unattended bag at Clapham Junction. We told a member of staff. Everyone had to sort of shuffle to the end of the platform while they poked at it with a stick or whatever it is they do.
I have been evacuated from stations/shopping centres etc loads of times so things are obviously being 'sorted'.

Another time there was ththis e totally off his face bloke who left his 1970s style carry record player as he got off the train. He had spent the whole journey acting weird, taking ages to show the guard his ticket and making such a performance when getting off the train it seemed odd he had forgotten his record player. I dashed to the buffet in the next carriage before the train left and they contacted the driver to say hold on and the guard came and removed the mysterious record player.

Chickenish · 14/07/2019 02:35

No, but I’m glad that when I left my funny-looking rucksack on a train in Sweden and had to get the next train to get it, no one thought to blow it up.

MrsGrindah · 14/07/2019 08:37

Ha! Good to know it gets taken seriously. I actually saw someone who I thought was about to jump in front of a train the other week and they ended up closing the whole station.

Yes I've reported an abandoned bag on the tube

JonnyPocketRocket · 14/07/2019 09:29

I reported a man on the tube who was ranting about wanting to rape and bomb Londoners. Problem is, it's a text messaging service, so it didn't send until I got off the tube 3 stops later and went above ground. The BTP did call me in a couple days later to give a statement and description but by then the guy was - obviously - long gone.

bookmum08 · 14/07/2019 11:03

Jonny for something like that I would of told an actual staff member at the station. Not faffed around with a text message.

JonnyPocketRocket · 15/07/2019 13:41

@bookmum08 I suppose I should have, except that it was between stations and he got off before me. I did think about pulling the passenger alarm to get hold of a staff member immediately, but I know that causes havoc, plus you get a fine or something if you pull it when there's no real, immediate emergency (which I don't think this was - he was just a scruffy drunk having a rant. I don't think he actually had a bomb under his coat although I suppose you never know.) The entire rest of the carriage just kept reading their papers / phones and avoiding eye contact so tbh I felt like I was overreacting even just by sending the message, leave alone pulling the alarm or trying to find a staff member.
