For the love of god take your toddler out of the cinema

Went to see Apollo 11 today, it's a U, so fair enough for children to be in the screening. I wouldn't say it's a particularly entertaining film for young children but fine.

The screen was pretty busy but 99% adults, apart from one family with a DD approx 8 and a DS approx 3.

Bloody hell, the boy did not stop talking or squawking, or trying to escape his seat. He was probably bored, but his parent just ignored him. I shhh'd him from about 5 seats away, multiple people turned round and gave the parents the death stare, one person on the other side said "can you please be quiet".

I don't blame the child, he only looked about 3, but Jesus Christ I wanted to throw something at his parents for not taking him out and waiting in the cafe while the other parent stayed in the film with their DD.

Rant over.

To clarify, there were 2 parents 2 children.

I would have gone out and told the staff. It costs a huge amount to go to the cinema. I won't stand for it being spoilt.

wowfudge · 13/07/2019 18:37

I agree - you need to tell the staff. I've done that where a group of people were ruining the film for the rest of the audience and they got chucked out and we were given free tickets.

Doesn’t the cinema have baby friendly screenings, when all the small screaming wriggly people can attend together and just annoy each other?! My local one does.
The parents must have been mad (or wildly optimistic) that a 3 year old would sit through a film like that. Most unfair on the other paying customers.

sneakypinky · 13/07/2019 18:43

Yes this cinema has kids club screenings, mum and baby screenings, autism friendly screenings, and special over 60's film days.

Apollo 11 would be a really boring film for a 3 year old. Not fair on the child or the rest of the audience to make him sit through it imho.

sneakypinky · 13/07/2019 18:51

I completely agree, I was pissed off with his parents rather than him.

This is what Cinebabies screenings are for! Although even then I'm not sure I get the point of going if your child is just going to talk all the way through so you can't watch the film. We take DD to the baby showings but she is only little and just sits there or feeds and naps. DP and I both said that when she gets more mobile and less placid then we will stop going as if I want to spend three hours not getting to watch a film I've paid for, I can do it at home for a fraction of the price!

I’d have complained to the staff too.

Too many ruin things for others be it films, meals, school performances etc. I can see why more adults host child free events given how selfish some parents are.
