Update on swallowed lollipop stick

Not sure if anyone will remember but 5 months ago I posted about my 4 yr old gs choking on a Chuppa Chup lolly that his mum had given him on a contact visit?

At the time I managed to dislodge the lolly but he swallowed it, stick and all, and we were advised by A&E to inspect his poo for a week or two to make sure it reappeared.

It never did appear but we were told nothing could be done about it unless it caused him problems such as a blockage or perforation.

So fast forward to yesterday and GS gets sent home from school as he feels sick - looks like a bug as I was sick the night before and GD last night. On his third bout of vomiting out comes the lollipop stick!

Oh my goodness! I didnt see the thread but what an ordeal! That must have been uncomfortable for him all these weeks!

cloudyinjune · 13/07/2019 10:37

Oh dear!!
So glad it came out!

Lollipops should be banned. That one time i thought my child would be ok with a lollipop (he never has them. Had new baby, child sat with us, it was a treat) he fucking choked. The whole thing came off the stick. Thank god i dislodged it. I had nightmares for weeks.

Im glad you child is ok. Thank goodness. Can't believe that stick stayed in there that long!

HairyFloppins · 13/07/2019 10:42

Blimey! Glad he is ok.

Totalfusion · 13/07/2019 10:42

Iwanttoredecorateagain - same here, we don't allow lollipops but this day he came home already eating it so I said sit down and dont move until you've finished it and he bloody choked on it.

Oh my goodness!! I hate lollipops! So scary

Horsemad · 13/07/2019 11:58

Glad he's ok. I hate lollipops, wish they were banned. My pet hate is seeing children running round whilst sucking on a lollipop. 😬

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/07/2019 12:01

He'll feel better now that's not lodged in his system, poor wee toot!!

I am the most laissez fair parent ever...think toddlers on high slides, climbing frames, teaching themselves to swim! (that was dd, she was and is fearless and would not be held!) but lolly sticks give me the raging heebie-jeebies!

McShakey · 13/07/2019 12:03

Oh goodness that must have been terrifying, I’m glad he’s okay now!

ReganSomerset · 13/07/2019 14:55

I remember your thread! So glad it's out now.

Sunnysidegold · 13/07/2019 15:25

I remember this as the same happened my kid but he popped it out a few days later. Bet you're relieved to know exactly where that stick is now! Glad he is ok

WeeDangerousSpike · 13/07/2019 15:33

Bloody hell! 5 months! You'd think it would have dissolved in stomach acid by now - unless it was stuck part way down I suppose. Must have been uncomfortable, either way. Poor lad.

Sivanand82 · 19/07/2021 23:42

Hi Sunnysidegold. We are similar situation my 4 year old swallowed one .how long it took popout and what is size of the Lollipop stick.

Kanaloa · 20/07/2021 00:31

Gosh. At least you know he probably won’t be bugging you for lollipops in the future! Hopefully his mum knows as well and can refrain from giving them again, maybe chocolates or something instead for a sweet treat.
