I've fucked up at work and really offended a colleague. Don't know how to apologise

None of it was deliberate but when you put it all together I must look like a total bitch. I'm really kicking myself here.

(trying not to completely out myself)

I didn't know a colleague was to be involved in a presentation and so didn't credit her. Then a new office junior came by today for an induction and I didn't know that the same colleague didn't know. She looked justifiably pissed off and I would be cursing in her position too.

I apologised at the start of the week for the presentation issue but I didn't manage to catch her today.

Should I message her and apologise again or wait until Monday?

Please don't stick the boot in because I'm feeling bad enough about it.

I wouldn’t say anything. You apologised for the presentation error but the thing with the girl arriving for an induction is a trifling matter.

SylvanianFrenemies · 12/07/2019 19:08

What was the issue with the junior? Sounds like a non-event, unless I am missing something.

Teacakeandalatte · 12/07/2019 19:09

None of this sounds like your fault so why are you to blame? Is there some reason you haven't mentioned why you should have known these things? If not then why should you apologise?

SeaSidePebbles · 12/07/2019 19:10

You’re just human. You didn’t know, you apologised. Let it go Flowers

CommaNotPeriod · 12/07/2019 19:11

In short, colleague will probably have more to do with the junior than me and will have to do a bit more work to oversee her work at the start. I did genuinely think she knew that she had been coming.

I'm struggling to see the issue with the office junior.

crosser62 · 12/07/2019 19:14

Non issue.
Don’t worry yourself about it st all.

You are not dealing with a princess, it’s a colleague in a professional role, I’m sure she can cope with a junior and I’m sure she can credit herself with work...

Chuck it in the fuck it bucket flower, enjoy your weekend Wink

Don't understand exactly but if you have made a genuine mistake I would follow up your spoken apology with an email saying something like you said here.
Dear Colleague I just wanted to let you know that I'm really kicking myself that I missed you out of the presentation/ didn't so something about the office junior and feel awful that you didn't get the credit you deserve/ got left with extra work/whatever. I really am so sorry and I'd like to try to help by crediting you in the report/helping with the junior/ doing whatever. I am very sorry. Best wishes, Comma

You've apologised for the presentation.

Was the junior thing your error...were YOU supposed to tell her? Or was someone else supposed to advise her she has a new starter?

Are you sure she was looking pissy at you specifically or just in general at having an unexpected starter and you just happened to be the messenger

CommaNotPeriod · 12/07/2019 20:56

Love the fuck it bucket, I thought I had been a real arsehole!

It was a bit of both. I should have given her the heads up but I genuinely thought she had been told.

I think it was just the combination of the two things that I was overthinking.

Christ on a ghost train.
I thought you'd killed her kitten the way you're going on. Chill it was an honest Innocent mistake. You've said Sorry that's an end to it.
