Or a few years, what did you do,and continue doing? I know it's all about ear less move more. I'm a typical yoyo, can lose it, can't maintain. Just looking for ideas to break the cycle.

To begin with I got into a regular routine of running and swimming to ensure I had to do it. I'm a creature of habit and felt let down if I missed it. Since then...Well, I got a collie ! Grin

(although she's hiding in her bed to avoid the rain right now, so perhaps not the motivation I need! Damn cute though.. )

Three meals a day, correct portion sizes for my height, no snacking.

That's it. I eat carbs and I full fat everything.

I now run 3x a week to help with maintenance but I lost the weight and kept it off for a while before I started running.

Get a spaniel. We walk miles every day without choice!! It's been so helpful for me, I've lost 3 stone and kept it off.

Doing 16 8 now to shift some more....... it's been surprisingly easy to stick to. No snacking, no junk. And no diet drinks of any kind.

This was four years ago BTW. Went from 13 stone to 9st3.

Habit. Either not eating when I used to (have a drink or do something else instead) or eating 'better' food. It takes a while to create the habit during which time you have to be mindful all the time but it seems to have stuck.

How many lbs do you want to lose, OP?

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/07/2019 19:21

2 stone. I've put weight on since having the children, can't get out in the evenings to exercise classes or run, bike, ride like I used to. Eat too much sweet stuff. Or just too much I guess.

I've recently lost 2 stone, from the fattest I've ever been, nowhere near slim but already started putting lbs back on

I managed to kill a recent thread about weight loss so fingers crossed that I don’t again. Anyway, for me (and I’m very much still on the journey - 5 stone down and 2 to go) it’s about understanding that it’s not going to stay off of you go on a diet. I have had to accept that I’m going to have to change my ways forever. It doesn’t have to be grim - we eat delicious food. Whenever I have dieted in the past I’ve lost plenty of weight but then put it back on once I’m no longer ‘on a diet’.

Hi-five Peoniesarepink !

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/07/2019 19:43

@Peaoniesarepink I used to have 3 spaniels. I haven't had a dog since them, due to working out of the house for long periods. They definitely help keep you moving!

@LadyLooLaa yes, that's what I'm thinking. I put weight on on the week or 2 before a diet too.

I lost 5 stone 4 years and have put back 1.5 of it - 1 stone this year but I've had a crappy crappy time.

Trying to shift it again and remembering the good habits - portion size, not too much artificial/processed sweet stuff, don't drink my calories, lots of veg, protein every meal.

I am a dreadful water drinker but it does make a difference. I love pudding but 5 days out of 7 this is fruit and yoghurt. I won't low carb (it works but I feel ill and it all goes back on so quickly so easily) but I do reduce them to fruit and veg and one portion of starchy carbs most days.

Biggest trap for me is the on diet mentality as a previous poster says. A heavy meal, a proper pudding/cake or a beer is fine in moderation but that doesn't have to wreak your day and 'start again tomorrow'. You don't need to eat all the cheese because you've been 'bad'

And recognise emotional triggers. Stress and grief have made me put this on.

And find fun exercise
