I do a forecast ahead when we get paid and write a list of additional expenses to the norm such as the million birthdays/christenings/parties we’ve had this month. I’ll then buy all the cards and presents online so they’re sitting waiting. I recycle gift bags so always have a stash ready, don’t bother with wrapping paper.
For young kids if I can’t find a toy in Home Bargains I’ll buy them an I am 3,4 whatever tshirt. £5 from Next. Parents love them as it’s not more plastic crap.
Yes, a definite no to ironing. I’ll iron school tops at a push. Most stuff doesn’t need it.
I have a proper diary as well as an online calendar which prompts me to do things.
When the kids are in the garden I’ll play with them for a while (which usually involves pushing on a swing for ages) then I’ll say mammy has to do some weeding/watering/planting now, will you help me? I don’t really do gardening at any other time and it keeps on top of it. Little ones especially love gardening and big ones can be given jobs like slapping some paint on a fence. Also keep the garden low maintenance. We have a big lawn which is used as a football pitch, a patio which contains a water play thingy and then various swing sets, play house etc. All we have to do it mow the lawn and deal with keeping the pots nice. No flowers beds yet to keep weeding to a minimum. When the kids have grown up I can have my lovely landscaped garden. Now is about easiness.
Kids can put own clothes away from a young age. If they don’t put stuff immediately away, I’ll stop washing it. I’m very clear on this. I’m now wasting time doing washing for it to end up on the floor.
11 yr old does almost all hoovering. It’s his specified job. He hates doing dishes so that’s fine by me.
