Any French speakers around? A quick question.

If someone was, say, pouring you a drink and you only wanted half a glass, would you say "Ca va" to tell them to stop pouring? I hadn't spoken French for years, but I was in France recently and found myself saying it in that kind of situation. I've no idea where it came from. Was it correct?

I'm a lapsed but former fluent French speaker and would say "c'est bon, merci". However, I think "ça va" would also work, particularly with hand gestures thrown in! Smile

I agree with @TattyCatty

Assez merci

Non.

I'd be inclined to say:

Assez, assez - with a big smile and a hand firmly over the top of the glass
or
C'est bon, with the same approach.

(Just don't do what one of my lovely former French teachers said on her first trip to France - she told her host family she was "full" but unfortunately the word she used can also mean pregnant, apparently....)

Thank you. It's good to know that it wasn't totally inappropriate. Weird that I just said it. I must've learnt it in that context at some point.

C’est bon, or ça y’est.
