Bored on holiday ...

soberken · 11/07/2019 11:09

I sound like the MOST ungrateful arsehole going so I am well aware of that.

But seriously I must be doing something wrong.

I am so BORED. Why do people love the blistering heat? Sand everywhere ... endless sun cream application.

Can someone tell me how you fill your days?!

Where are you at the moment? Tell us more.
I don't do beach holidays as such. If we are near one we might do a morning there a few times.

timeforakinderworld · 11/07/2019 11:16

I'm 10 days into a beach holiday. You need to get into the slow rhythm...I hated it at first but love it now. Lots of reading, playing with the kids, meeting up with friends, planning what to eat, cocktails, siestas....

soberken · 11/07/2019 11:28

Thank you @timeforakinderworld I think you're right. I lead such a hectic life and find it hard to sit down!

I'm in Mallorca.

I need to make some friend hahah!

So jealous. Sat here at my desk doing expenses, yawn 🤦‍♀️ Wanna trade? You can be bored here and i’ll Be bored there.

RottnestFerry · 11/07/2019 11:46

Stop lounging around on the beach, hire a car and explore the island.

EscapeTheCastle · 11/07/2019 11:46

Love Mallorca. So beautiful. Haven't been for years though. How hot is it?

EscapeTheCastle · 11/07/2019 11:47

mmm, google weather telling me 32c right now. Yes that is hot!

IhaveALooBrush · 11/07/2019 11:48

Hire a car and visit Chopin's house.

youngestisapsycho · 11/07/2019 11:56

I'd give anything right now to be laying on a sunbed, on the beach, with a good book and a cocktail! Smile

HairyFloppins · 11/07/2019 11:57

I'm very jealous, I would love to be floating around in a pool right now.

Second the suggestion of hiring a car, go and visit the caves of Drach.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 11/07/2019 12:02

Ok... plan activities! Book a boat trip/ snorkelling/ jet ski for this afternoon and tomorrow. Explore the town, find a cafe, look round a fort/ ruins etc. Pack a picnic and head inland. Siesta in the afternoon, restaurant and walk by the sea in the evening when cooler. If you have to lie on a beach/ by a pool take a book!

babysharkah · 11/07/2019 12:05

Go to beach
Lie down
Read a book preferably with a cocktail
Swim a bit
Repeat

Oh and play with the kids if you have any.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/07/2019 12:07

I used to think I disliked holidays as a child as we always went to the beach/pool and I would get very bored.

Now as an adult I have more of a say in my holidays and tend to do very active holidays - cycling, walking, water sports etc and have a much better time (and not in ridiculously hot places either!)

You just have to find the right holiday for you.

Opossooom · 11/07/2019 12:13

Are you alone OP?

userxx · 11/07/2019 12:37

It takes a while to wind down. I love to go out exploring, I'm not one for lying on a beach all day.

soberken · 11/07/2019 12:41

I'm with my 5 year old DC

OK, hired a car, boat trip booked, explore tomorrow!

And hopefully we will make some friends too.

To be fair, I went on holiday last year just me and one five year old dc. It's a tricky combination as you can't just sleep and daydream for hours on end, but they don't want to spend time going around and doing things either. Try hanging around the kids entertainment and see if you can make a friend, we did that and it helped hugely.

Pipandmum · 11/07/2019 17:08

I find travelling with young kids you do something active in the morning then afternoon chill by pool/beach then dinner out if they can stay up a bit. I could never just sit in the beach - I don’t like the sun or sand for a start!

mindutopia · 11/07/2019 17:41

I don’t go to resorts or beaches. I think they’re really boring. A nice city hotel with a pool of you are taking small children with you. You can go out and go things every day. You aren’t stuck by a pool or on the beach with bad all inclusive food.

If you truly need to relax, go away alone for a night or two. But I think family holidays are better when you have things to go out and do.

BlueSkiesLies · 11/07/2019 18:17

Just the two of you? That makes it harder.

Kids club. Kids entertainment. Play in the pool endlessly. Beach visit and hire a lounger with parasol so thee is shade. Build a sand castle. Go in the sea. Insist on a siesta or at least some midday indoor cartoon watching out of the heat, so that they can stay up later. After dark when it cools down go check out some playgrounds. Walk somewhere to buy them an icecream.

soberken · 11/07/2019 22:19

Yes @BlueSkiesLies just the 2 of us.

I've planned some days out. Totally taking advantage of coming in at hottest time of the day for iPad / TV down time (me a slight snooze!)

And I can't lie ... I'm eating my way through the boredom which is depressing but I'll get over it.

DC is loving the water, loving the beach, quite happy to come in and chill and for that alone is worth it of course

But this is a huge learning curve for me, I just don't like this kind of holiday. I think it's adventure holidays in spring time moving forward.

I enjoy spending time with my 5 year old more than anything and that's what is important

Thanks for everyone's input to my ungrateful post Confused

@timeandtimeagain42 thank you ... are we also the same age? 42? Wink

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie

So yes! After some slight soul searching in what I like and dislike this just isn't for me (love the idea mind you!?)

Can you point me in the right direction for adventure, activity holidays? Obviously skiing Wink
