Been perimenopausal for at least 7 yearsHmm. Increasingly my front botty is sore and itchy. Not thrush, tried steroids which do help temporarily. But now Dr has prescribed Vagifem. How long till the itching goes??? Been using it for a week and no relief yetSad

Be aware that the standard regime of daily for two weeks and then twice a week may not be enough for you. I had to go private to be told that it is perfectly safe to use it every day, which has changed my life and enabled me to have sex again.

I use estriol cream rather than vagifem, like being able to apply directly to the itchy bits as well as internally, works for me.

Exmoor · 11/07/2019 10:00

Thanks. Will give it a few weeks. Perimenopause is shit!

Have you tried Sudocream? I had a smear a few weeks ago and mentioned I was having severe itching issues with my perinium and the surrounding area. Nurse couldn't see anything but recommended Sudocream - its amazing!! I apply regularly and the itching has definitely reduced to almost not there.

GoldenHoops · 11/07/2019 11:47

I've used a very thin smear of Eurax cream and the relief was instant. However please check if its suppose to be used around that area. I was desperate so just used it!

picklemepopcorn · 11/07/2019 12:33

I found after the initial daily dose I needed three times a week rather than two. Since HRT patches kicked in I've been ok on two.

I'm not happy about all the plastic generated though.

Exmoor · 11/07/2019 12:54

@picklemepopcorn yes agree. Don't like the single use "inserter"!

I use Vagifem every day, works much better than the recommended twice a week. You could try fiddling with the dose till you get it right for you.

picklemepopcorn · 11/07/2019 13:08

I'm hoping when I get a review with the GP that there will be a less wasteful alternative.

wigglybeezer · 12/07/2019 00:10

That's why I asked for estriol cream @picklemepopcorn, it's got a reusable applicator, still plastic but at least I only use one every couple of months.
