Tell me! I Drive a 57 plate with no bells and whistles whatsoever. What do I need to buy to allow me to play my audiobooks through my car speakers? Cannot think what I need to search for!

I used to use a i trip which worked by connecting with a radio station

Does your car have a cassette player? If yes, have a look on eBay/amazon for a cassette to phone adapter. It's basically a cassette tape with an aux lead which allows you to plug your phone in and play whatever you want off your phone.

I want to know this too. 2011 car and Android phone but I can't figure it out. It has a USB socket but nothing happens when I plug my phone in Confused.

I went into Halfords yesterday and they were less than useful. B&M have cheap Bluetooth gadgets for Apple phones but nothing to sync android to a car.

Look for a car aux cable on Amazon.

You need a Bluetooth FM transmitter it’ll play it through the radio

If it's a 57 plate it might have an aux socket (it's a headphone jack - check your owners manual to see where it is if it's there). If not, you can get an FM transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and connects to your phone via aux or Bluetooth.

What car is it, btw? As I might know

PandorasWhiskers · 10/07/2019 19:59

It works by Bluetooth your phone to an FM channel they are about £15 on Amazon :)

You Bluetooth your phone to the transmitter n choose an fm channel then tune radio to that FM station n bingo!

I used to use one of these before I got my new car - it plays on a vacant radio frequency. It worked quite well, though on long trips you might have to re-tune to find a clear station, as local stations have different frequencies.

I think you need something like this:
www.amazon.co.uk/REALMAX%C2%AE-Transmitter-universally-compatible-smartphones-Blue/dp/B014Z74T1E/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?s=electronics&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1562784846&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A1058990031&sr=1-4

You can use your phones headphone jack aux 3.5 cable to connect to it. Think you need to tune it to an FM station. It’s easy enough.

Note that some newer iPhones (after 7) don’t come with a headphone jack. I bought a cheap MP3 player or iPod nano to use for music.

Or use Bluetooth.

I used to use it a lot. The sound is much nicer from the speakers!

I use a cheap FM transmitter that I plug into my phones AUX connector. I think it cost less than £10 from Amazon.

Like this:

I use this. Driving from near Leeds to Blackheath, 91.8 FM is clear all the way.

starzig · 10/07/2019 20:29

Do you have a headphone port (in car and phone)?, if so you need a Jack lead. Or, Do you have a 12v socket (traditionally a car lighter)? If so you can get a USB Bluetooth adapter and 12v sub adapter.

ImpracticalCape · 10/07/2019 20:35

You can get a thingy that plugs into the cigarette lighter. You choose a channel on the thingy and tune into it from the radio. You can then connect to it by Bluetooth or by a wire and your music plays through the radio station.

None are only for Apple.

I used to use an FM transmitter but I hated it. Now I use an Anker Soundcore bluetooth speaker and I love it. Super long battery life.
