What to do around Snowdonia in the rain?

Staying here for a few days (near Porthmadog) and see it's going to be very wet tomorrow.

Don't mind travelling a little way to get to something good to do / see indoors. Any ideas? (No caves)

SunnySomer · 10/07/2019 18:07

(My dh and ds are camping in wales this week and that’s what they’re doing tomorrow!)

Get the train in Porthmadog, think it is the mountain railway. Portmeirion.
Go in to Caernarfon, lovely castle there. Harlech castle. Bangor is not far away for some shopping. Beaumaris jail and there are a few nice shops.

The Electric Mountain at Llanberis is interesting and mainly under cover.

Euphonium · 10/07/2019 18:12

Go to Black Rock sands.

and the sun centre was demolished about 3 yrs ago
I didnt know that!
I had many trips there from my youth club as a kid!! Happy times!

thepointoforder · 10/07/2019 18:13

@flouncyfanny Rhyl is miles away, however they reopened the sun centre this year.

BellatrixLeStrangest · 10/07/2019 18:19

I love Llanberis! Its nice to walk round. Some nice places to just chill out and relax and I also love the little train ride there as well. You can also go up snowdonia on the train?

The train can be very expensive as well as very busy. Its recommend to go as early as you can if you havent pre booked.
My mum and dad went in it a few weeks ago and loved it.

We are on holiday in Anglesey at the moment. It's been predicted to rain fir days and hasnt.

The Sea Zoo is lovely as is the Vintage Car Museum both of which do a nice lunch.

We also loved Baumaris and the tour round Puffin Island.

Not sure how many miles this would be from you though.

I love Anglesey, I could easily live here year round.

Rhyl suncentre was demolished, but it’s been rebuilt and reopened a couple of months ago

HippyChickMama · 10/07/2019 18:36

Trip on the Ffestiniog railway? Or you can get day passes to Hafan y Mor Haven site which has a swimming pool with flumes but you'd have to phone today to see if they have any for tomorrow. Bounce below is a trampolining place that's in a cave but it's a big cave!

EggysMom · 10/07/2019 18:45

The new Rhyl sun center (SC2) doesn't look a patch on the original - it's got water features but I cannot see any actual swimming space. Anyway, it's probably too far.

We did the Fforest Coaster in the drizzle (well, we started in drizzle, we were there a couple of hours and it dried up!) Oooh how about Zipworld's Slate Caverns at Blaenau, there's trampoline nets in the caves there? I know you said no caves, but these aren't boring cave tours.

Ride the steam train, either up to Caernarfon or up to Blaenau?

Thanks for the ideas

I looked up the electric place but it's closed. Have already walked up Snowdon. Have a fear of caves, rather than finding them boring!

Will look up some of the other ideas. Was thinking of going to Portmeirion but I didn't realise you had to pay to get in. Not sure I want to pay that much just to see it in the rain.
