Grown up crockery

At the grand old age of mid 30’s I would like to buy a set of good quality crockery - plates, bowls etc

So far I’ve managed with freebies and gifts and I’d like to treat myself

I’ve been looking at Denby (halo) but wondering if there are any other brands I should be looking at before buying ...

I came to say Denby Halo, it's gorgeous

Nanasueathome · 10/07/2019 12:38

I have Emma Bridgewater

Denby also do a plain white range by James Martin which is remarkably inexpensive (for Denby) but looks pretty smart.

@Nanasueathome I love Emma bridgewater but all our mugs are Bridgwater and the glaze seems to fail after a few years use so want something that really will last

I love my Correlle crockery. Very lightweight and slim to stack, available in plain white or many different patterns.

Forgot to say, Correlle is very durable. Some mine are vintage from the 70s and still in great condition.

we have denby the dark green with the white inside and its elegant looking good quality heavy duty crockery and theres lots of extras you can buy we got all ours from ebay a few bits at a time

CMOTDibbler · 10/07/2019 15:58

I have Denby, and it has lasted as our everyday crockery really well. We buy new plates as seconds from the outlet shops

Troels · 10/07/2019 17:08

I love Denby but wanted something more delicate looking so went with Aynsley I bought two sets and use them daily, they run through the dishwaher and the microwave and are more strdy that I imagined.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 10/07/2019 17:34

I bought ours from Tesco's!

LTB. The dark halo is far superior. I love it.

I've had Denby Jet Stripes for 14 years and it still looks great - used every day, in and out of the dishwasher, and has survived DS (now 17). But I do second the suggestion of getting it from an outlet store. You will not notice the defects and perfection would only count if your great grandchildren planned on taking the whole set to the Antiques Road Show!

meepmoop · 10/07/2019 17:50

We have Cornish Ware, it's very sturdy and is great in the dishwasher.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 10/07/2019 18:28

We have Denby. After 10 years of everyday use and abuse, just a couple of plates have minor chips. It's durable enough that I've been happy to let the kids use it, plus they use the smaller sized plates that blend with the full size.

I need to head to the seconds outlet as a bowl objected to its indavertent fling off the metal edge of the dishwasher, but most crockery would!

useronetwo · 10/07/2019 22:49

Denby all the way. It has survived 2 overseas moves. Plus I top it up from the outlet when I'm home x

My advice is to buy plain white in a range that also comes in singles so if plates or cups chip then you can easily replace. If you want to add colour to your table invest in some brightly coloured linen.
