How can I get the smell of smoke out of something ?

Purchased an item from ebay and it smells of smoke (reading back on the listing it doesn;t say from a smoke free environment - so I guess I should have been more careful) but anyway - it's not totally hideous smelling, but is giving the room a bit of a whiff.

Any suggestions ?

Oops - clicked too soon - item is a vintage teddy bear -stuffed with straw, so not washable.

What type of Item is it?

If fabric would it be safe to febreze and put outside for a while to air.

Is it a small item you could put in a box with some Bicarb sprinkled in the bottom?

Dry Cleaning sheets you put with the item in a tumble dryer?

The smoke smell may have been there from years ago so not versatile the sellers home.

I would get a plastic bag, not a bin bag as they can smell of smoke, but a carrier bag and empty a tub of bicarbonate of soda inside then lace teddy in so that he is rolled in the powder and leave him overnight.

The powder should absorb some of the smell and can easily be shook off/gently hoovered.

I would first put it in a box with some bicarb in it, to get rid of the majority of the smoke smell. Then I would put it in a box with some lavender oil and cedar wood chips to 'replace' the smell, and get rid of/keep away any insects.

Oh thank you all - I have bicarb, and I have lavender oil - so I will get to work on him. Smile

If we get some dry weather he can also have a sit out in the garden Grin
