Would you take a slow cooker camping?

I'm really tempted, I wonder if I could squeeze it into the car while DH isn't looking (he keeps telling me off for adding more and more stuff to the list of things to take GrinBlush )

do you have elctric hook up and you would have to stay where the cooker is for the whole length of time, i thought idea of camping was freedom to roam for the day then come back at night i wouldnt risk leaving something cooking in a slow cooker near a tent

stucknoue · 09/07/2019 16:38

No, but I took a wonderbag that doesn't require electricity!

I would for sure. I can't see the problem with leaving it alone.

In a caravan, yes; tent, no. Do you really fancy chopping, prepping etc in the morning when on your hols?

tisonlymeagain · 09/07/2019 16:48

I haven't but I'm on loads of camping groups and it's a really popular thing to do.

notacooldad · 09/07/2019 16:53

No way!

I had mine in a touring caravan, used to plug it in the awning in a morning & coming back to a lovely hot meal in the evening. Peel & chop your veg before you go & seal them in freezer bags, then just add your meat & liquid.

Dh once suggested taking our toaster. Kids still rib him years later!!

I've just looked up the wonderbag. It looks amazing. Is it basically just a fancy tea cosy?

tisonlymeagain · 09/07/2019 17:12

I took a toaster @Summertimeatthebeach Couldn't be doing with trying to make toast over the gas stove!

stucknoue · 09/07/2019 17:29

A wonderbag is a modern version of a haybale cooker - super insulated so food stays very hot. Brilliant for camping, picnics or when you have run out of hob/oven space. But a special tea cosy yes I suppose it is. When I bought mine, they donated one to a low income family in South Africa for each one sold.

No way. Hate electric hook ups - just like being at home if you want a slow cooker, toaster, hair straighters etc

bobstersmum · 09/07/2019 17:33

I would take it if you have somewhere safe to leave it cooking, and also absolutely nothing wrong with taking toaster camping!
