washing dry clean only viscose top

just bought a top in the sales and it's dry clean only 100% viscose. How can I test it to see if it'll shrink if I cool handwash it...? At the moment thinking it might just have to go back..

I’d give that a go on delicates/silk and wool cycle. I can’t see any reason why an unlined viscose shell would need dry cleaning

StarlightLady · 09/07/2019 15:56

I would wash it on a 30 degree wash. Viscose is made from bamboo. It is tough.

PennyPeaShooter · 09/07/2019 16:04

I'd hand wash it cold - previous experience

I’ve had a woven viscose top sort of shrivel up and go stiff when washed, so I’d be careful.

Do you remember the fad for shrinking crisp packets in a low oven? Kind of that sort of effect.

A lot of labels say this just to ‘cover themselves’ when there is often no need. I wash everything in the washer and haven’t come a cropper yet! Just use a gentle wash and a low spin.

P.S. some of my viscose tops warn of a 5% shrinkage when washing for the first time.

PolarBearOnARaft · 09/07/2019 16:31

hmm I'm not sure there's room for a 5% shrinkage. I'm not dry cleaning so I might as well send it back.....
