Do people really believe this?

"If your husband works such long and demanding hours, presumably he is a high earner?" Was written on another thread. This ISN'T a thread about a thread OR specifically about that poster but a out the belief that those who work long hours must earn lots. Or that to earn lots you must work long hours.

In my experience, the people working longest hours tend to be on little more than minimum wage- carers, bar staff etc.

My DH is a high earner, it's rare he does more than 40hours a week (not including commute. The culture of his company is to have a good work/life balance (and before people say he'd earn more if he worked more, he's just had a large payrise and it's been the same in his last 3 companies).

Some people who work long hours get paid well and. Some people who work long hours get paid sod all.

Hard work and long hours has little to do with how much you come out with at the end!

My DH works long hours and is a high earner but i don't have any particular belief that all people who work long hours are high earners or whatever.

Yes! Was this on a thread yesterday evening? I read this and thought exactly the same thing. So many people on 12 hour shifts with overtime on top to make ends meet, or picking up the hours when available in case they don't get offered again.

I'd assume there is a distribution of long shifts for lower hourly rates at one end, a dip around average, then an increase towards higher paid roles with higher responsibilities at the other end where the work is salaried and outcome based rather than by time put in.

The notion of hard work = financial success is the biggest fallacy ever.

No you can definitely work long hours and not earn much

Or be in a high paying job and put in a huge amount of time
