Is this a good price for a patio?

It’s 34 square foot. We’ll be having a couple of steps and a foot long dwarf wall. Chap will charge £5400 for all materials, labour and clearing up. Awaiting two other quotes.

Blimey, that's like asking how long is a piece of string!

How much ground work is to be done? Is it replacing an existing patio or decking? Is there ground to be levelled out, lots of soil to be removed? Then there are the types of slabs being laid which can vary enormously depending on size, colour, shape, material.

Have you specified the slabs having already identified them yourself and where stocks them? Because if you've done that, you can work out the cost of the slabs and from that work out how much you are being charged for the labour, which will make it easy to compare the three quotess.

Replacing decking which we’re removing ourselves. No soil to remove. Concrete under the decking. Not sure if there are any manholes but chap said the slab needed to go over is only a bit more expensive. Stone tiles but not sure of individual price.

Concrete may need to go. Would normally have a very level surface of soil and sand on which to lay the tiles for drainage.

Stone tiles but not sure of individual price

Sorry this sounds rude, but why don't you know this? Presumably you have chosen the look and size of the tiles you want somehow, either in a catalogue or in a store. You should know the price of either the individual tiles or how much a square metre of those tiles works out as. From that you should at least have a reasonable idea of the materials costs.

Actually, you can lay onto concrete if you put a good base layer of upto an inch thick of coarse sand in between the concrete and slabs/tiles/pavers. Or depending on the material of the tiles/slabs.

We picked from his catalogue but they didn’t have individual prices. I guess I need to ask to get an idea.

You should ask for his quote to be broken down into materials and labour. You can't really compare the three quotes otherwise - one could be using a much cheaper quality tile and charging you much more labour.
