I always told them when we were leaving the house for the appointment. I'd just tell them that the nurse was going to put some special medicine in their arm so that they wouldn't get poorly. I told them that it would be a little pinch and that if they were good then afterwards we were going to the cafe/park/buying a magazine etc. They were always fine with it.

I told mine we were going to get a special injection that makes them run fast like the big kids at school. A bag of chocolate buttons for when the job is done!

I told mine a few days out, and reminded her the day of, then when we left for her appointment. But she has a morbid curiosity about anything medical she watched in fascination as my pregnancy bloods were taken and asked the nurse if she could have a go Confused The more blood/grossness the better as far as she's concerned.

She was really nonchalant about it afterwards. The boy before her cried a lot and she got quite anxious and was surprised when it was overwith quickly and didn't hurt much. I still got her a small sweet treat for being brave.

I think go with whatever feels right for your child. My eldest likes having the warning so she can ask a million questions. My youngest will probably get less warning as I think that'll suit her better.

Ok thank you

Did anyone have any side effects apart from maybe a temp and a bit of colour ?

No side effects at all when DS had his last week.

I told him day before and again in the morning. Took chocolate buttons but the nurse had a sweet tin anyway. He cried a bit but only for a few moments and he got a Lenny the Lion bravery award!

I told mine the day before that she was seeing a doctor to make sure she didn't get any illnesses. On the way I told her they put the medicine in her arm using a needle and it might hurt. She didn't even cry. Still remembers it as a great day as I treated her to a lollipop and soft play afterwards.

The day before we talked about it and how it's important to stop you getting somethings that can make you very poorly. That it might hurt a little bit but will get a treat.
As much as I am not a fan of rhe Dr ranj programme there was a nice clip which we watched on you tube about having vaccines.
Took a new magazine to the Dr's for all h e waiting about

I give these injections at my work. I don’t mind if the parents tell the child or not as I have a chat with the child anyway.
I explain that now they’re a big boy or girl it’s their turn for some special medicine that helps stop them getting poorly but also helps their friends/mum/dad/etc.
That for it to work best it’s a little injection but it’s over in a second, and that some children get super brilliant at catching and jumping and throwing! So they’ll have to practice.
Quick jab, takes a second to give, tonnes of cheering and clapping and because they were super brave and had two injections they can choose two stickers Wink

I am so glad these are the last of the vaccines until she's a teen!
Super important but not very nice at the time
Thanks for all the advice :)
