Car stuff baby trying to make a baby

gemmababymaking · 08/07/2019 09:31

Hi every one

Newbie on the scene tolerate me if you will

I’m trying to get a baby in my belly at the moment..... not right now but you get my drift
I’m Looking for a new car but I do not see the point in getting a car that’s not suitable for a baby or a pram for when the time comes

I’m a very nervous driver and want the car as small as possible I even contemplated a smart car but if it won’t take a baby safely or the pram I’m not investing as I may have to do this on finance

What small cars do you all own so I can get an idea of how brave I’m going to have to be

I live in a town centre parallel parking with cars either side of the road

Many thanks

Big baby trying to make a baby x

Can you redo your post so you actually sound like someone old enough to drive?!
If you’re that nervous please don’t drive with a baby in your car.

pinkyredrose · 08/07/2019 09:34

Do a refresher driving course and get a mid sized car.

Soubriquet · 08/07/2019 09:36

big baby trying to make a baby

HmmHmm

WTAF?!

Does anyone really speak like this

BobTheFishermansWife · 08/07/2019 09:41

It depends what kind of pram you want and how big it is. How much you want to spend on your car etc, I would go to somewhere like Evans Halshaw where they have a range not just a brand.
Personally I would say I mid size car, things like a Ford Focus, VW Golf, Toyota Yaris, Volvo V40 etc
We got a Mercedes A-Class last year to replace our Fiesta because it was too small, I prioritised the boot space and wanted back doors that open really wide so I had room in the back.
My other half wanted something not so typically 'family car' and that was out compromise.
If you've got time and patience, go and test drive a few that are within your budget. Buying cars is fun!

RiftGibbon · 08/07/2019 09:50

Do you need a car? If you're in the town centre then presumably you've access to most shops.
Perhaps focus on whichever is more important to you right now - car or baby?

FckIt · 08/07/2019 09:52

This entire post made me cringe.

sleepingbelvi · 08/07/2019 09:58

I’m trying to get a baby in my belly at the moment.....

Im not sure that's a good idea.

Pascha · 08/07/2019 10:09

Whichever car you choose, make sure its 5 door. 3 door cars are a bastard to get babies in and out of.

Orchidflower1 · 08/07/2019 10:16

I’ve reported because I’m not sure if this is a jokey post,it is the school holidays for y11, someone who genuinely is conversing in this manner, a troll or whatever. Any way it’s reported as I’d always prefer to err on the side of caution, it’s not appropriate to go troll hunting.

JuniperNarni · 08/07/2019 10:24

I read the title of this post as someone trying to concieve solely through car sex.

gemmababymaking · 08/07/2019 10:43

Ok so from what I’ve read I’m the responses I feel like a complete fool

I obviously have caused a few concerns

I’m not a troll neither am I trying to cause offence to any one I’d like to add I’m 34 just new to this and though if I added a little humour or maybe some thing to attract attention like maybe making some one laugh they may feel they might be able to help

I’m a nervous driver that’s all and whilst im trying for a baby I wondered what are every body’s thoughts were on cars that can carry safely a pram a baby and me

I didn’t think this was the place for judgement

I shall just write directly and to the point in future and remove my personality

But Thankyou to the people who take me seriously

And sorry to the people I have offended

Arf Grin have you used MN before?? You probably don’t want to use the AIBU board...

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 08/07/2019 10:57

JuniperNarni me too!

Definitely spend some time increasing your driving confidence as having a baby can make you more cautious. Make sure you have plenty of petrol and drive early on a Sunday morning or later summer evenings when it’s quiet to a few places.

We have a VW polo and we tried both an Uppababy Vista and Cruz (big travel systems) in our car and they fit. You definitely want to get a 5 door car.

Orchidflower1 · 08/07/2019 11:00

OP. You haven’t caused offence but the tone was slightly odd. You need to remember that teenage trolls often post things about sex/ bodily functions etc. Whilst It is nice to include your personality, I’m sure you’d have got far more positive and informative replies if you’d just said...

“Ttc but looking to change the car- but worried any tips”

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/07/2019 11:06

@gemmababymaking I have a smart forfour and I'm currently pregnant. The back seats have isofix and I have found a pram that fits in the boot, there's not a lot of space to spare but we'll get by. I can't afford a new car so we'll need to. My sister has a Ford Ka which has more boot space but there are no 5 door options. When I change in a couple of years I'm considering the Ka+ as it's still small but with a much bigger boot.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 08/07/2019 11:07

It might seem odd but a mid size or even large car is pretty much the same to drive. It's only until you get to big suv style cars that parking becomes slightly harder.

I don't think you can go far wrong with the Ford Focus, Skoda Octavia, VW Golf or a Audi A3. All have enough space for a pram and shopping

sleepingbelvi · 08/07/2019 11:07

Get some refresher lessons to build on your confidence driving. Babies can be a distraction and you need to be able to focus safely.

As for the car, go look at cars. Find something you like. Research it. Asking Mumsnet will just get you a long list of cars, you need to work out which one is for you. The best way to get ideas is to look. Don't listen to any pushy salespeople trying to tell you what you need either, they have their targets in mind, not your family car.

raspberryk · 08/07/2019 11:13

I've had smaller cars (fiesta 5dr hatchback) which had wider boot opening than the Jag I had and the BMW I have and so fit a pram better despite the volume of the boot being smaller.
Other things to consider are babies need to rear face til 2 now and some if those seats are bulky so if you need to get anyone larger than 5ft in the front passenger seat you'll need a fair size car.
As a confident driver I'm far more confident in a larger car, have you driven something larger/higher up? Many cars have parking sensors now so bear that in mind for you parking "issue".
An advanced driving course might be a good idea.
Consider isofix.
Sliding doors are easier for getting kids in and out.

Gems1985 · 08/07/2019 11:26

Thankyou for all of your help so far

Like I said I’m new to this and have no idea of how it works

Also if I could go back and amend some of this things that caused the conflict in the first place I would as I can see why it may have come across in the way some people read it I just can’t see how to edit it?

I meant I’m a bit of a baby at driving and me and my partner are trying for a baby so would appreciate the advice on cars
That suit people so I can have some ideas

So Thankyou again for every ones advice x

voxnihili · 08/07/2019 11:27

I have a Fiesta and can fit a bugaboo Fox including the carrycot in the boot. I pack bags into the carrycot to fit more in.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 08/07/2019 11:32

Name change fail OP?

We have a Ford Focus sized car (think Audi A3, Volvo V40, Vauxhall Astra) it's the only way we can fit a pram in the boot, the isofix behind the passenger and leave enough room for the passenger to not actually be touching the windscreen with their nose.

Modern pram frames can be HUGE. We've got a big standard Silver Cross and just about have enough boot room for shopping.

NannyR · 08/07/2019 11:34

My own car is a Skoda citigo (very small but can fit car seats and pram in no problem) and I drive a Volvo xc90 at work (big four wheel drive type car). To be honest I find the big car no more difficult to drive and park than my small one, it has parking sensors and cameras and it's much more enjoyable and comfortable to drive. I wouldn't write off bigger cars on the assumption that they are more difficult to drive until you've actually tried driving one.
Something bigger will be much more convenient if you decide to have more than one child (or are blessed with twins!), especially as they get older and you are taking bikes, scooters, sports kits, musical instruments etc out with you.

mogtheexcellent · 08/07/2019 11:59

I have a Citroen c3 hatchback. Worked fine for baby and a dog. Not sure if it can handle two kids and a dog though.

Sadie789 · 08/07/2019 12:04

Nervous drivers make me nervous. Do you have to drive at all? With a baby it’s often easier to just walk to where you need to go, especially the first year.

Please do not get a smart car. Not designed for anything more practical than being helicoptered off a super yacht in the south of France. Hence why you hardly see any about.

A five door small hatchback (one up from a supermini) will do you. I’m not sure why you want to go as small as possible as that to me seems counterintuitive if you’re a nervous driver.

Chloe9 · 08/07/2019 12:06

Just any five seater than can fit an isofix car seat in the back (they tell you which ones). Most will fit a pram in the boot and most pranks fold down small, with bits that come off to make them fit basically. Haven't had any troubles until I had 2 kids/double buggy but that may be worth considering if you don't want to replace the car I you plan on having any more. Older ones have to be in an isofix car seat until 12 I think so even if you don't want a small gap you still need to consider the number of isofix placements. It's a bugger with more than 2 kids you basically need a people carrier and that's it
