Ffs, my shirt's ruined isn't it?

Had a bit of a satin paint mis-hap & it went on several handbags and one of my work shirts. It's come off the bags (fake leather so just wiped off) but I can't get it out of my shirt.

I've only got three outfits for work if the weather's bad enough for boots (I walk there and back & my second job there is only until the summer hols so I didn't want to spend much) & this means I'm down to two now unless I wear summer tops with my boots...which I think will look daft

Try a dry cleaner?

lucysmam · 07/07/2019 18:24

It'd cost more to dry clean than the shirt itself cost so probably not worth it. Never mind.

What have you tried so far? Will the fabric take being scrubbed with a nail Brush? What laundry products do you have to hand? Anything like stardrops might be good.

QuestionableMouse · 07/07/2019 18:36

It's probably not going to come off but you might have luck if its still wet.

Stick it under cool running water. Rinse away as much as you can. Dab with turps or something like and then wash like normal.

Might work but you're not losing anything if it doesn't.

lucysmam · 07/07/2019 18:38

I've tried washing up liquid with a sponge, then a toothbrush which lifted the majority, then it's been through the washer three times with various loads to try and shift it. Oh, and I tried rubbing alcohol and hairspray too.

It's just got lots of little patches.

I haven't got much else to hand, tbh. Washing powder & washing up liquid, hand wash and a bar of soap. And a spray I use occasionaly on the cooker top.

I think if it was going to come out, it probably would have by now

Can you cover it with something?

ArseholesOnToast · 07/07/2019 18:58

You could try something like de-solv-it which is a stain remover that claims to get rid of paint.

It comes in a can and you can get it in places like Home Bargains usually for a couple of pounds.

lucysmam · 07/07/2019 19:30

@ArseholesOnToast I will have a look for it if I go to town this week, thanks.

@DontCallMeShitley I don't think so, it would look odd if I did; there are a few patches, mainly on the back.

Sounds odd but have you tried putting it in the freezer, waiting at least 24 hours then scraping it off?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 07/07/2019 19:35

If it’s dried try scraping with a razor.

thenightsky · 07/07/2019 19:36

I've had success removing paint off clothes by using nail varnish remover.

I am assuming its a white shirt, I would just go and look in the school uniform section of supermarket or similar as thy are stocked up all ready. They do cater for much bigger these days with adult female sizes at top end - I don't know why from age 12 up they don't use a "Teen" sizing based on dress size (To avoid VAT being added) so T6 T8 T10 T12 etc you can get 3 for cost of dry cleaning

Alternatively try a few charity shops if you get a chance
