If your job isn’t sedentary/office-based and you’re on a £25k+ salary...

...what do you do for a living?

I spend my day sat in front of a computer and I hate it. I’m so bored. I’ve put on loads of weight since starting this job. I swim and walk/hike regularly outside of work but I only have a half hour lunch break so there’s no chance of a lunchtime leg stretch. Commute is 30 mins each way and no option but to drive.

I don’t mind a few hours in the office each day, but I’ve had enough of being chained to my desk. Help.

MadamePompadour · 06/07/2019 19:46

I used to clear blocked sewers and earned over 30k a year.

Th1me · 06/07/2019 19:47

Nurse

supercee · 06/07/2019 19:48

Following this as I'm the same. So sick of office work.

Kernowgal · 06/07/2019 19:49

Would you recommend it, Madame P?

EtonM3ss I knew there’d be a few answering from the medical profession and it’s something I’ve long considered, but I can’t afford to retrain.

Nurse. Critical Care with lots of transfers as we have a helipad. Very interesting though shifts are a killer if you are not used to them

Avocadodance · 06/07/2019 19:50

Slot of healthcare jobs will meet that criteria
Nurse as others have said
Doctor
Physiotherapist
Health visitor
Occupational therapist
Podiatrist especially if out in community

Avocadodance · 06/07/2019 19:51

Ah, cross post. No help I'm afraid then. Dog walker?!

Avocadodance · 06/07/2019 19:52

Childcare
Beautician
Personal trainer
Sales

Kernowgal · 06/07/2019 19:53

Hah, I would quite like to be a dog walker!

Think I need a bit more intellectual stimulation though.

Teacher

BillywigSting · 06/07/2019 19:55

Not me as I earn less than 25k but dp is an industrial chemist, as is my df. Dm is a nurse and my friend is a police officer

Grandadwasthatyou · 06/07/2019 19:56

Foster carer. You never sit down!

fitzbilly · 06/07/2019 19:56

I'm a childminder, never sit down and spend a fair bit of each day walking, running, kicking balls around and generally trying to keep up with toddlers. Also in this weather spend most of the day outdoors.

I used to be a teacher and didn't really sit down much then either.

littleblackno · 06/07/2019 19:56

Social worker

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 06/07/2019 19:56

Surveyor.

Firefighter?

Fantababy · 06/07/2019 19:58

Teacher. I love it and would recommend but I'm in Scotland , not in England and I think they get a harder time in England than we do.

MontyBowJangles · 06/07/2019 19:58

I'm like you and looking for something that doesn't mean sitting still all day. I'm looking into becoming an Outreach Worker helping vulnerable people (will only earn around £21k around here tho - South West).

GroggyLegs · 06/07/2019 20:01

Safety advisor/auditor for a large national company. I say I work in H&S and people glaze over, but:
Different faces everyday.
Different challenges.
Decent pay for 9-5 (ish) hours + car.
Flexible
I love investigating & love giving good audit scores.

There's a LOT of sitting in a car driving about though, and you need a thick skin for the audit parts. People are defensive dicks to auditors.

Chesntoots · 06/07/2019 20:02

I'm a Prison Officer. Definitely not sitting on my bum all day. I do not recommend it though!

Aozora13 · 06/07/2019 20:02

I just realised that me & DH are in the minority in our families as office workers! I don’t know salaries but some jobs are:
Teacher/nursery teacher
Forester
Nurse
Hospital doctor
Dentist
Farmer
Mortician
Events/hospitality
Landscape gardener
Gas/heating engineer
Mechanic
Photographer

So quite diverse really!

QueenofLouisiana · 06/07/2019 20:06

Another teacher, well, SENDCO. Even during my “office day” I’ll clock up 8,000 steps as I move around working with different children, filing stuff away, chasing down resources etc.

The teaching days, I’ll sit, stand, crouch, trot about as needed.

Ronnie27 · 06/07/2019 20:07

Housing officer. Have to be in the office sometimes but very varied and out and about a lot.

Lauren83 · 06/07/2019 20:09

Private healthcare (non medical role) 30k

FrankiesKnuckle · 06/07/2019 20:19

Paramedic.

Good salary if you like unsocial hours and a fuck ton of abuse, no 'lunch' breaks and not finishing work on time, ever.

(I couldn't do anything else 😁)
