Mooncup question

Ok. I know this is the sort of question which gets jumped on for trolling but I PROMISE I am a genuine poster. Been around for ages, cancelled my fair share of cheques and eaten my fair share of naice ham.

I bought a mooncup recently. I've hated using tampons since I have birth a couple of years ago and I've always hated using pads. So I thought a mooncup might be a good idea. But...it hurts! Is it supposed to hurt? Am I doing something wrong? A couple of specific questions;

-should the "stem" be inside or outside my vagina?
-if inside, should it go as far in as a tampon?

  • is it normal that it's uncomfortable and I can feel there is something in there, like pressure? Is it possible it's too big? I bought a "medium" as recommended for women who've given birth
  • what can I do to make it easier?!

So, you shouldn't feel it at all and no, it shouldn't hurt ☹️
I completely cut the stem off, as I don't need it to remove the mooncup, but the yes the whole thing should sit inside. Not too high that it doesn't work effectively, but not too low that you can feel it.
It took me a few cycles to get used to it, but I wouldn't go back, it's far easier than tampons and can stay in longer.
You have to sort of, adjust it so there is a seal otherwise it will leak.
It sounds like you have the right size though.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon Smile

I also cut the whole stem off mine - I have no idea how it would be comfortable with it left on, even trimmed.

When I put it in it sits quite low (as I think it is meant to), but fully inside - but it does move further up with time.

I can’t feel it when it is in, unless I’ve put it in wrong. Are you wetting it before use? That can help get it in properly.

Ok great, thank you! I'll try cutting the stem off and see if that helps.

No, I'm not wetting it before using it, I don't really feel the need to seeing as I'm already on my period. But let's see how I get on with cutting off the stem, and maybe that's the next step. I feel like maybe I just need to use it as a Kegel exercise- gravity seems to be playing a part in my discomfort 😳

It does sit very low compared to a tampon. It took me a while to get used to mine but so glad I persevered. It’s worth it!

I like to rinse mine under warm water first before I put in. It softens it up a bit so it’s easier to fold. It then goes further inside! My first period with it was nasty but I’ve been using them for a decade now and love them. Let us know how you get on!
