Why would someone age through my bin?

This morning I noticed that a large cardboard box, that was the first thing I put in my recycling bin 10 days ago, had been removed and the lid left open.
The bin is for cardboard, glass and plastic. There are no letters ( thinking of identity theft) in there, they would be in the black bin which looks untouched.
What does someone want with my recycling!?

Moving house and recycling boxes? Or using an address label for identity fraud? Or needing cardboard to sleep rough?

The box was left in front of the bin, they didn’t actually take it just removed it.

They would probably have been looking for personal details (letters etc) good job you don't put yours in there

I know parcel theft is a big deal in some places, and sometimes delivery company leave parcels in bins - we'll never know why someone looked in your bin but it might have been a search for a parcel.

This used to happen a lot in the area that I lived in they could be seen looking to see if you had anything expensive bought recently a latest phone box or TV box laptop iPad that kind of thing.

I'm an allotment holder and I frequently take large cardboard boxes for mulch.

Hairyheadphones · 06/07/2019 11:36

I just had a look at the box and realise I stupidly left the receipt attached and it’s now gone, I paid by PayPal so am hoping it doesn’t actually have any details that could be copied on it.

Op you need to be vigilant now. Identity fraudsters collect small bits of information that build a fuller picture/range of information to commit crime

I don't know OP but people go through our large bins looking for metal to recycle. They are not from UK and making a living in this way. Good for them.
