It has been a difficult year for various reasons, and we haven't got around to booking a holiday yet, but I have a week off work the week after next. We'd like to go away to somewhere we haven't been before, and I'm looking for some inspiration.
We don't really do beach holidays but open to most other things. DH would prefer to avoid the heat if possible but recognises this may be impossible. We have a teenage dd (14) who is pretty much up for anything. I just want to do something a bit different this year, but not sure what.
Other holidays we have enjoyed include city breaks and lakes/mountains etc. Also loved the Norwegian fjords. Definitely want to go abroad but don't really want to go to Italy/France/Austria/Ireland/Portugal as we have visited all of those fairly recently - unless there was something really special that we could do in one of those countries.
I don't want to do any driving or cycling, as neither of those are my idea of a holiday. Would happily travel by train or ferry. Will fly if necessary but mindful of the environmental impact. Walking would be fab if not too hot. Love posh hotels but happy with more basic options too. Camping no good but glamping might be ok. We'd love to go and learn something new, see another culture or experience something special. We like meeting new people too. We only have a week, so probably need to stay in Europe as I'm not sure it's worth going long haul for such a short time.
We don't eat meat, so that might be a factor in some destinations.
Can anyone suggest anything? I have tried our local travel agents but they don't seem to offer much outside the usual package deals to Greece, Spain etc, and they don't really appeal to me.
Budget is around £3k total but could be flexible.
