Hi,

My DS is 2 in July and has everything but I've been asked by numerous people what he would like and I'm a tad stumped

Some things he currently has;
Slide
Water table
Seesaw
Balance bike
Skuttle bug
Brio trainset
Duplo
Toot toot
Building blocks
Peg puzzles
Word cards
Kitchen
Happyland sets

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Seriously, if a 2 year old has everything no one needs to buy anything.

Aside from him not appreciating more and more stuff what about the environmental waste of buying for the sake of it. Have a nice birthday with friends and family and tell them no gifts please.

Start asking for money so you can either 1) put it together to buy a big present instead of endless tat 2) put it in savings or 3)use it for a family day out.

Then you have also set the precedent for years to come and aren't going to get random stuff to fill up your house that he doesn't like/you don't like/he already has.

Realistically what he would like at 2 is a cardboard box.

Add-ons to his Brio, Duplo, Toot Toot, Happyland collection or more stuff for sand/water play.

Art and craft stuff. Crayons, pens, sticker books. Play-doh. Nice apron/overall to protect his clothing. Easel.

"Everyday" role play - things to build off the kitchen set - some cuttable fruit, a tea set, more utensils - or expand it - pretend cleaning stuff, toy washing machine, doll and bath set, pram to push around. Shop set, toy till or shopping basket, etc.

Toy parking garage for cars or other small world stuff - maybe some dinosaur or animal figurines, pirate ship, aeroplane playset, farm,

More complicated jigsaws, large piece thick cardboard ones should be good now or soon. Number, colour or letter matching. Bead maze thing like you get in banks. More complicated shape sorter type thing. Giant beads with thick string to practice threading. Peg board. Very simple board games (e.g. Haba first board games, chunky snakes and ladders)

More exotic role play - dressing up stuff, doctor's or vet's kit, pretend tools in tool box.

Books, DVDs, story CDs

Bedding or posters to decorate his room

Annual pass to local attraction

Useful things themed for a character (book or TV) that he likes - plate/bowl/cup set, clothing, underwear, soap or shower gel, towel, flannel, food.

DS is 2 at the end of this month and I'm getting him more Smartmax which are these magnetic animals he loves. He is really into dinosaurs atm so he's getting the dinosaur set

A scooter? Playmobil 123 or duplo, a train set

Start your playmag collection. Our boys love playing with theirs and we add to it at every birthday or Christmas

Swimming lessons.

Money towards an experience/day out e.g a theme park (thinking of Ceebeebies Land in Alton Towers which DGS loved).

Vouchers for the clothes shop you use for him most- he'll need bigger stuff more often than they realise.

I think the best toys are open-ended ones that don’t really have an age limit. Things you can build with or climb on etc. For my boys second birthday I’m getting him a pikler triangle (like an indoor climbing frame that folds up and has slide attachments etc) it’s way out of my usual price range but I inherited some money this year so thought I’d go for it!
