Restaurant posting full name and phone number of no shows online

Have just seen this on facebook after a customer didn't show up with their group to a small restaurant. So a large % of takings were lost. Restaurant have named them and posted their number and said they will do it for all future no shows.

Some people have posted advising caution doing this but they haven't taken it down.

I only follow them as they were previously on a chanel 4 programme ages ago.

Loads of people are really supportive of them doing this. Never seen this before, I'd it a thing?!

No shows can shut a restaurant down, but they need to only take walk ins or credit cards on bookings, their own fault!

And yes GDPR, nice 20% fine coming their way hopefully.

I don’t even know who you are @WeeDangerousSpike Confused and I have only ever said I don’t believe something on the obvious troll threads that disappear within about five minutes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But yeah, maybe you’ve misread something before.

Hithere12 · 05/07/2019 21:33

Posting a private phone number for people to harass is extremely irresponsible. They have NO IDEA what the reason was for not showing up was.

PodgeBod · 05/07/2019 21:38

Like others have said, just take a deposit. This would really put me off of eating there.

DonkeyHohtay · 05/07/2019 21:42

They're not posting it for people to harass the no show. They've not even posted the full number.

They are warning other local eateries about a CF who books a table for 7 people 90 minutes before planning to arrive, changes her mind and pisses off somewhere else without having the common courtesy to cancel.

DonkeyHohtay · 05/07/2019 21:44

@Hithere12 they do know why she didn't turn up. After repeated phone calls, she said she'd changed her mind. Hmm

SummerRainSmellsFab · 05/07/2019 21:44

@DonkeyHohtay they have posted the full number. Only removed last 2 digits when someone mentioned gdpr. If you look at edit history they made many many edits but kept number in until last one

Ok well that’s still no excuse to dox someone. Just take a deposit next time.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 05/07/2019 21:51

That’s way out of line. Hope they get a fine. Of course no shows are awful but this is pathetic. Deal with it like a professional establishment not like a teenager playing at it.

IvanaPee · 05/07/2019 21:58

If they originally posted the number they’re in for a world of trouble!

RosesAndRaindrops · 05/07/2019 22:03

On;y read the OP.
I can see they'll be pissed off, but surely you can't just publish people's personal details without their consent?!
There's rules about that kind of thing!
Definitely wrong and they should take it down.

Inthemuckheap · 05/07/2019 22:04

They haven't posted the full number though - it's missing last two digits. Name is one thing - telephone number is a bit off. Understand they're pissed off but not going to do them any favours. As others say, take a deposit on bookings of more than 4 people.

Hithere12 · 05/07/2019 22:06

They did originally post the full number but made edits after being criticised.

RosesAndRaindrops · 05/07/2019 22:06

OK, just seen the screenshot.
If they've just said her name, I don't think there's any data rules about that?
(Could be wrong though.)
They absolutely shouldn't be pm'ing any randomer asking for their details though, that's definitely wrong!

BornInAThunderstorm · 05/07/2019 22:13

If you search the edit history you can see the full number. It’s a very risky thing to do as it could well backfire, since other customers can’t trust them with their information. Still, it must be very frustrating to reserve a large area of your space and prepare tables for a big group who just don’t show

SummerRainSmellsFab · 05/07/2019 22:57

Just looked. They have removed more digits from the number. It was full number in multiple edits. Then last 2 digits missing. Now only half the number.

But if you click on edit history you can see the full number easily.

For all the person has said sorry changed mind. We dont know what has happened. Could have been a family crisis/upset and last thing on their mind was to cancel a restaurant. Theh could be selfish pigs and not care. We dont know.

I think the restaurant now need to look at a plan to avoid this like deposit for larger bookings if it causes so much money lost that they cant replace from walk in customers on the night.

If the party changed their minds , could they not just phone ? I have a lot of sympathy for the restaurant owners - if it is the one I think it is , I have been - it is in Mijas and not big so a party this size would make a dent in the day’s takings .

Oldbutstillgotit · 05/07/2019 23:03

@SummerRainSmellsFab - if there was some sort of an emergency why not say that when the owner phoned ? I am sure the restaurant would have been more understanding.

SummerRainSmellsFab · 05/07/2019 23:09

I agree. Totally agree. It is a shitty thing to do. But 2 wrongs don't make a right.
